\"FringeButtons2\"<\/a>Oxford, Miss. (TLV)\u2013Now in its second year, the Art-er Limits Fringe Festival<\/strong> is set to take over Oxford this weekend, August 6\u20138. Boasting a wide array of \u201c70 art events in 72 hours\u201d to the tune of five dollars for a single button, the young festival is starting to establish itself as a highlight of summer in Oxford.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"FringeAdColor-shorter\"<\/a>\u201cIt\u2019s about exposure, exposure, exposure,\u201d says Project Coordinator Stacey Sanford<\/strong> of the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council<\/strong>. \u201cThe entire purpose of Fringe is to get as many artists as much exposure as possible.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe criteria is basically what people want to see.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2015 iteration of Fringe promises a little something for everyone, from Shakespearean comedy to book signings to experimental rock shows in unconventional spaces.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fringe has managed to incorporate some of Oxford\u2019s other summertime festivities into the mix this year, as Oxford Square Alliance<\/strong>\u2019s SummerFest<\/strong> and the Southeastern Comedy Arts Festival (SECAF)<\/strong> join in on the fun. SummerFest brings kid-friendly entertainment to the Courthouse Lawn on Saturday, while SECAF\u2019s various events (a comedy jam, improv performances, and a stand-up showcase) can be found all over the weekend\u2019s schedule.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Map\"<\/a>Things kick off at the Powerhouse<\/strong> Thursday evening with the Iron Bartender<\/strong> competition, in which local bartenders square off with a secret box of ingredients for the audience\u2019s vote. From there, the weekend will roll on with performances from multiple area bands (Water Spaniel<\/strong>, The Red Thangs<\/strong>, Holy Ghost Electric Show<\/strong>, and members of Captain Magma<\/strong>, among others), plus dance performances, and even a burlesque show.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"TheRoom\"<\/a>Perhaps one of the highlights of this year\u2019s festival is a screening of cult classic \u201cblack comedy\u201d film The Room<\/em> at The Lyric<\/strong> on Friday night, followed by actor Greg Sestero<\/strong>\u2019s signing of his book The Disaster Artist <\/em>at the Lafayette County-Oxford Public Library<\/strong> the next day.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re trying to bring in the book signings for people who don\u2019t necessarily want to go and rock their face off,\u201d says Sanford, \u201c [Sestero] is going to talk about his experiences in the movie, writing the book, and now twelve years later, how he\u2019s still <\/em>talking about the movie!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Several locations have special events planned in conjunction with the festival. One such event is Friday night at Proud Larry\u2019s<\/strong>, when Memphis record label Goner<\/strong> takes over, featuring a performance by the acclaimed Ex-Cult, <\/strong>plus Manateees <\/strong>and Midnight Fistfight<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The winner is the bartender who creates the most popular cocktail with bonus points for most ingredients.
