UNIVERSITY, MISS. (TLV) \u2013 Just a few days after three Ole Miss Men\u2019s Tennis<\/strong> members\u00a0were named All-SEC, the squad learned it would be a host site for the NCAA\u00a0Tournament<\/strong>. Ole Miss, currently ranked No. 13 in the country, finished the season with\u00a0an overall record of 17\u20138 and will play Alabama State<\/strong> in the first round in Oxford<\/strong> at the\u00a0Palmer\/Salloum Tennis Center<\/strong>. Georgia Tech<\/strong> and Columbia<\/strong> will kick things off on\u00a0Friday at noon.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Stefan\"<\/a>\u201cWe are very excited to host,\u201d head coach\u00a0Toby Hansson<\/strong>\u00a0said. “The guys have\u00a0worked extremely hard to get this opportunity, and they deserve it. We have had a lot of\u00a0success at home, and we are looking forward to playing in front of our great fans.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Senior Nik Scholtz<\/strong>, junior Stefan Lindmark<\/strong>, and freshman Gustav Hansson<\/strong> were\u00a0rewarded for their \"Nik\"<\/a>efforts being named to the All-SEC Team. Scholtz and Lindmark\u00a0made the first team while Hansson made second team honors and the All-Freshman\u00a0Team.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very proud of all three of these guys,\u201d Hansson\u00a0said \u201c. This league is\u00a0extremely tough ,so to make the All-SEC Team means you have had a great year. They\u00a0have helped us rank among the top teams in the nation and finish in the top third of the\u00a0SEC. Nik, Stefan, and Gustav are all very deserving of this honor.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Nik Scholtz made history, becoming the only Ole Miss Men\u2019s Tennis player to be\u00a0named All-SEC First Team all four years.\u00a0\u201cNik has been one of not only the best players in the nation, but in this league since he\u00a0arrived four years ago,\u201d Coach Hansson said. \u201cTo be the first player in our program to\u00a0be named to the first team all four years is a great accomplishment. I know there is\u00a0more he wants to accomplish both with the team and individually, and we are looking\u00a0forward to seeing that over the next month.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Gustav\"<\/a>Alabama State won the Southwestern Athletic Conference to earn the league\u2019s\u00a0automatic bid to the NCAA Championships\u00a0Columbia posted a 14\u20135 overall record and won the Ivy League to earn the automatic\u00a0bid. The Lions carry a seven-match win streak into their 10th NCAA Tournament\u00a0appearance. Georgia Tech (14\u201312) earned an at-large bid from the Atlantic Coast\u00a0Conference.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you get to this point in the season, you have to be prepared for a battle no\u00a0matter who you play,\u201d Scholtz added. \u201cIf you don\u2019t give it 110 percent, you\u2019re going to\u00a0come up short. We know that, and for the younger guys, I\u2019ll make sure they know that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Tickets for the NCAA Tournament first and second rounds are $7 per day or $10 for the\u00a0entire session, and $3 for students college-aged and younger.<\/span><\/p>\n
