Oxford, Miss. (SAA) \u2013 The\u00a0Student Activities Association<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and the Ole Miss Student Union<\/strong> will welcome Thomas Rhett<\/strong>, along with solo act Iron and Wine<\/strong> and the duo Love and Theft<\/strong>, to the Grove<\/strong> on Sunday, April 26, 2015<\/strong> for an afternoon of country music.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 4 pm concert, which is free and open to the public, will wrap up Oxford\u2019s\u00a0Double Decker Festival weekend<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and follow the Ole Miss<\/strong> baseball game against the University of Alabama<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe goal of the SAA spring concert is to host a fun and exciting event on campus,\u201d said Nathan Darce<\/strong>, coordinator of student activities. \u201cSAA has a long history of hosting many well-known musical acts on campus. Students should use this concert as an opportunity to support musical acts that come to campus. It is a great opportunity to spend time with the extended University of Mississippi and Oxford communities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

All the\u00a0performers have been recognized at the Country Music Awards.\u00a0Spaces in the Grove are available on a first-come, first-served basis.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thomas Rhett<\/h2>\n

Headliner Thomas Rhett, son of country star Rhett Atkins<\/strong>, began playing drums as a child and by junior high school was part of a punk rock band called the High Heeled Flip Flops<\/strong>. He began playing at fraternity parties while a student at David Lipscomb University<\/strong>, but it wasn\u2019t until he played a one-time gig with his dad that he attracted industry attention, as a songwriter.<\/span><\/p>\n

After Jason Aldean<\/strong> recorded Rhett\u2019s \u201cI Ain\u2019t Ready to Quit,\u201d Rhett landed a deal with Big Machine Record Group<\/strong> and cut his debut album, \u201cIt Goes Like This,\u201d which includes the chart singles \u201cGet Me Some of That,\u201d \u201cBeer with Jesus,\u201d \u201cWould Ya,\u201d \u201cSomething to Do with My Hands\u201d and the title track. His next single, \u201cCrash and Burn,\u201d is set to be released Monday (April 27).<\/span><\/p>\n

Iron and Wine<\/h2>\n

Sam Beam<\/strong>, better known as Iron and Wine, is no stranger to Oxford, having performed here several times, including the 2012 Double Decker Arts Festival.\u00a0He recently released \u201cArchive Series Volume One,\u201d a compilation of unreleased tunes recorded over several years. His five studio albums include \u201cThe Creek Drank the Cradle\u201d\u00a0(2002),\u00a0\u201cOur Endless Numbered Days\u201d\u00a0(2004), and\u00a0\u201cThe Shepherd\u2019s Dog\u201c<\/em>\u00a0(2007), all on the Sub Pop label.<\/span><\/p>\n

Stripped down and exposed,\u00a0Archive Series Volume No. 1<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0epitomizes the dual nature of\u00a0Sam Beam<\/strong>\u2019s songwriting, both before and after he adopted the moniker\u00a0Iron & Wine<\/strong>. Furnished with only his guitar and his voice, the collection of 16 tracks spotlights his affinity for wistful lyrics and tender chords.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the song,\u00a0\u201cEveryone\u2019s Summer of \u201995,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Sam sings of old friends with an air of nostalgia that\u2019s lightly buried beneath beautiful guitar picking. Now,\u00a0<\/strong>the song has a new video\u00a0that adds yet another layer to one of Sam\u2019s home recordings. Paying homage to the world created within Sam\u2019s lyrics, directors\u00a0Erin Elders<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Jeff Tomcho\u00a0<\/strong>elected to tell their own story about a man, played by\u00a0David Dastmalchian\u00a0<\/strong>(Dark Knight, Ant-Man,\u00a0<\/em>&\u00a0Animals<\/em>), attending a wrestling match. <\/span><\/p>\n

As told to\u00a0Indiewire<\/em><\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cWe wanted to create a unique environment that was as genuine as his song but also with a bit of mystery. The idea was to create a character who could perhaps exist in an Iron & Wine song and follow them around for a night, seeing what unfolds.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Love and Theft<\/h2>\n

The acclaimed duo Love and Theft includes Stephen Barker Liles<\/strong> and Eric Gunderson<\/strong>, both of whom sing\u00a0lead vocals\u00a0and play\u00a0guitar. They have established themselves as one of country\u2019s hottest young acts with such memorable hits as the No. 1 country smash \u201cAngel Eyes\u201d and the Top 10 hit \u201cRunaway.\u201d They were nominated for Vocal Duo of The Year for the third consecutive year at the 2014 CMA awards, and last month, they released their boundary-pushing new album,\u00a0\u201cWhiskey on My Breath.\u201d\u00a0\"The<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n
