Name:<\/strong> Daniel Karlish<\/span><\/p>\n

Where are you from? How long have you lived in Oxford?<\/strong> I’m from Malden, Missouri.\u00a0First moved to Oxford in 1998. Left in ’05. Moved back in ’12. But even when I didn’t live here, I regularly played with bands from here.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What instruments do you play & which is your favorite?<\/strong> Guitar, steel guitar, drums, bass.\u00a0I get paid to play guitar, so that’s my favorite!<\/span><\/p>\n

How did you learn to play?<\/strong> The hard way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Early musical experience:<\/strong> I remember my uncles playing at family gatherings. That got my big brother into playing, which got me into playing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Your music style\/genre:<\/strong> Not sure it has a name. It’s a mix of roots styles: blues, country, jazz, rock.\u00a0I don’t care what people call it, as long as they call it good! I guess it’s guitar geek music.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What bands have you been in?<\/strong> I’ve played w\/ Kudzu Kings, George McConnell & The Nonchalants, Ken Edwards & The Well Strung Band, Mustache the Band, and various bands under my name.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

First concert you ever witnessed:<\/strong> Metallica on the And Justice For All<\/em> tour with Queensryche opening.\u00a0Queensryche played the entire Operation Mindcrime<\/em> album!!!<\/span><\/p>\n

Favorite bands:<\/strong> WAY too many to list!!! From Danny Gatton to King’s X to Jackson Browne!<\/span><\/p>\n

One thing you’d like to change about the Oxford music scene:<\/strong> More Daniel Karlish Trio shows.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Best thing about Oxford music scene:<\/strong> The support of fellow musicians.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Most famous person you’ve jammed with:<\/strong> Either Bob Weir or Cassandra Wilson or Alan Johnson.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you have a day job? If so, where?<\/strong> My day job is in Mustache the Band. MUH-STACHE!!!<\/span><\/p>\n

Where do you hang out in Oxford? <\/strong>Does my couch count?<\/span><\/p>\n

Aspirations:<\/strong> The diminished scale.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
