Octagenarian bluesman Leo \u201cBud\u201d Welch<\/strong> will follow up his debut album, Sabougla Voices<\/em><\/strong>, with I Don\u2019t Prefer No Blues<\/em><\/strong>, out on Fat Possum \/ Big Legal Mess<\/strong> on March 24th, just days after his 83rd birthday. BigLegalMessRecords.com states: \u201cI Don\u2019t Prefer No Blues<\/em>\u00a0is what the preacher at Welch\u2019s church said when he found out Welch was making a blues album. \u2018Up until\u00a0Sabougla Voices<\/em>\u00a0came out, I had only played spirituals in the church and in tents for about 50 years,\u2019 Welch explains.\u201d The album features guest musicians Jimbo Mathus<\/strong> and Sharde Thomas<\/strong>, and is produced by Bruce Watson<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

To celebrate this milestone, Welch will perform a release party on April 5th (Easter\"LeoBudWelch\"<\/a> Sunday) out at Foxfire Ranch in Waterford, Mississippi, just a few short miles up Hwy 7 North from Oxford. The gates will open at 4 pm, with music starting at 5 pm. In addition to Welch, Jimbo Mathus will make an appearance, as well as Robert \u201cBilbo\u201d Walker<\/strong>, Jason<\/strong> Carter<\/strong>, and the Cedric Burnside Project<\/strong>. The order of performances will be released the day of the show.<\/span><\/p>\n

As always, Foxfire Ranch is completely family- and pet-friendly, and will be serving their signature food. Welch\u2019s new record will be available for purchase on both CD and vinyl, and the artist will be available for autographs and photos. The entrance fee is just $10 at the gate, and children 13 and under get in free.<\/span><\/p>\n
