Tickets are available through the <strong>UM Box Office<\/strong>. This student-inspired event was made possible by generous support from the <strong>University Lecture Series<\/strong>, numerous university entities, and private donations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">John Waters has directed over a dozen movies. He has penned numerous nonfiction <a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/John_Waters003.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-23619\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/John_Waters003.jpg?resize=600%2C900\" alt=\"John_Waters003\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/John_Waters003.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/John_Waters003.jpg?resize=200%2C300&amp;ssl=1 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>books. His latest,<strong><em> Car Sick<\/em><\/strong>, was on the 2014<em> New York Times<\/em> bestseller list. He is also a noted photographer whose work has appeared in galleries all over the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Waters is an artist with the amazing ability to make his audiences laugh, squirm, and scream in one delirious, delicious moment. His cult classic films such as <em>Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble, Polyester<\/em> and larger big budget productions like <em>Serial Mom, Cry Baby, Hairspray <\/em>and <em>Cecil B. Demented<\/em> are carnivalesque journeys into American cultural and social life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Dennis Lim<\/strong>, the <strong>Film Society<\/strong>&#8216;s Director of Programming at <strong>Lincoln Center<\/strong>, says it best when he observes that John Waters is &#8220;a lifelong provocateur and by now a national treasure. [He] is a singular, even prophetic figure within not only American cinema but also the broader landscape of American popular culture.
