Gallery 130 <\/strong>at the University of Mississippi<\/strong> is proud to present\u00a0This Fickle Vessel<\/strong>, a new exhibition featuring painted paper collages by Erin Harmon<\/strong> from October 5-November 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Harmon explores the complexities, follies, and transitions of midlife femininity, creating richly layered works that move between pleasure, fertility, sardonic humor, and grief. Her practice draws upon deep lineages of handmaking while honoring the historical traditions of women\u2019s artistic production including tapestry, quilting and embroidery. The intricate collage works in this exhibition foreground the labor and intimacy of working by hand while a monumental, immersive 20ft collage provokes a physical and emotional awareness of the body. As Harmon describes it, \u201cMaterials and processes establish fantasy, illusion, and the interplay between flat and not flat while building an alternate Utopic world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 5, Harmon will visit The University of Mississippi to meet with students and visit classes before hosting a closing reception for\u00a0This Fickle Vessel. The reception is free and open to the public and will offer an evening of food, conversation, and community. Harmon will also give an artist talk at 5:30 p.m. at Gallery 130 in Meek Hall.\u00a0This Fickle Vessel\u00a0reflects the contradictions and transformations of lived experience, inviting viewers to consider the body as both subject and vessel\u2014an ever-changing site of memory, labor, desire, humor, and transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Harmon is Professor of Art at Rhodes College<\/strong> in Memphis, TN<\/strong>. She has exhibited her work nationally in both group and solo exhibitions at venues including Field Projects, NY<\/strong>; Sarah Doyle Gallery, Providence RI<\/strong>; Atlanta Artists Center & Gallery, Atlanta GA<\/strong>; the Brooks Museum of Art, Memphis, TN<\/strong>; the Attleboro Arts<\/strong> Museum, Attleboro, MA<\/strong>; and LAUNCH Gallery, LA<\/strong>. Erin has been invited to produce commissions for organizations including Ballet Memphis<\/strong>, The Women\u2019s Foundation of Greater Memphis<\/strong>, and the Memphis in May International Festival<\/strong>.
The Gallery is located at Meek Hall <\/strong>on Cross Street. The exhibition will be open Monday-Friday,
9:00am-5:00pm and by special appointment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
