{"id":165763,"date":"2026-09-10T13:15:29","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T18:15:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=165763"},"modified":"2026-09-10T13:15:30","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T18:15:30","slug":"2026-2027-mississippi-cwd-management-zones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/2026-2027-mississippi-cwd-management-zones\/","title":{"rendered":"2026-2027 Mississippi CWD Management Zones"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) wants to inform the public of the 2026-2027 Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Management Zones.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Below is the list of CWD Management Zones:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>North Mississippi Management Zone:<\/strong>\u00a0Includes all portions of Alcorn, Benton, Desoto, Lafayette, Marshall, Panola, Prentiss, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, and Union counties. Only portions of Coahoma, Quitman, Pontotoc, and Tunica counties are defined as: areas south of Highway 4; areas east of Old Highway 61 to the intersection of Highway 49 (Lula); areas east of Highway 49 to the intersection of Highway 278; areas north of Highway 278 in Quitman County; areas west of Highway 3;\u00a0<strong>and the addition of areas north of Highway 278 in Pontotoc County.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Issaquena Management Zone:<\/strong>\u00a0Only portions of Issaquena County are included, specifically all areas east of the Mississippi River and all areas south of Highway 14. This also includes all portions of Warren and Claiborne Counties. \u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Harrison Management Zone:<\/strong>\u00a0Includes all portions of Harrison County west of Hwy 49; all portions of Hancock County east of Highways 53, 603, and 43; and all portions of Hancock County east of Nicholson Avenue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdwfp.com\/wildlife-hunting\/chronic-wasting-disease\/cwd-management-zones\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>CWD Management Zones<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdwfp.com\/sites\/default\/files\/2026-09\/2026-27%20CWD%20Guide.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>Hunting Season CWD Guide&nbsp;<\/u><\/a>for zone maps and specific regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In <strong>CWD Management Zones<\/strong>, there are two regulations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Whole carcasses may not be transported outside of any CWD Management Zone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supplemental feeding is banned in all CWD Management Zones (salt licks, mineral licks, and feeders).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following may be transported outside of a CWD Management Zone:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Meat from cervids that has been completely deboned, or bone-in quarters with no part of the spinal column or head attached.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Antlers, antlers attached to cleaned skull plates or cleaned skulls where no tissue is attached to the skull.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cleaned teeth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finished taxidermy and antler products.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hides and tanned products.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any portions of white-tailed deer originating from land outside of an MDWFP-defined CWD Management Zone between the Mississippi River levees in Arkansas and Louisiana.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hunters may only transport a deer head outside of an <strong>MDWFP<\/strong>-defined CWD Management Zone to a permitted taxidermist participating in the CWD collection program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since February 2018, 584 CWD-positive white-tailed deer have been detected across eighteen (18) counties. MDWFP encourages all hunters to submit deer for testing this season.
