Photo by Kevin Bain\/Ole Miss Digital Imaging Services<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Everyone is affected by addiction in some way,&#8221; said <strong>Mason Glaze<\/strong>,\u00a0collegiate recovery community coordinator. &#8220;The events offered during this month can give people examples of experience, strength and hope in recovery.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The free events highlighting recovery are open to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The events create intentional space to connect with others and space to hear real stories from real people doing really incredible work,&#8221; said <strong>Katherine &#8220;Kakky&#8221; Brown<\/strong>,\u00a0assistant director of student support.\u00a0&#8220;They also help reduce the stigma around recovery.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The slate kicks off <strong>September 5<\/strong> with the annual <strong>Recovery Walk from 10 am to noon<\/strong> at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/39d9882956cd46848eed83139c6c5f4c\/2\/cdf69200c9f27b808788be8eb29412b56869b862da59ea3ff1d4758fc18b215a?cache_buster=1787844477\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>South Campus Recreation Center<\/strong><\/a>. Photo by Kevin Bain\/Ole Miss Digital Imaging Services<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>On September 15<\/strong>, the Mississippi Attorney General&#8217;s Office will sponsor\u00a0a communitywide Narcan training from 6 to 7:30 pm in the <strong>Ole Miss Student Union ballroom<\/strong>. The training will provide participants with information and skills for responding to an opioid overdose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In partnership with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/39d9882956cd46848eed83139c6c5f4c\/3\/6ec036ed273c63f8e95c7dae93913e26bae4d8b6b083c757ac0140b7a05d142d?cache_buster=1787844477\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">School of Law<\/a>, the month&#8217;s activities will conclude <strong>September 24<\/strong> with a recovery keynote featuring <strong>Missy &#8220;Mama Justice&#8221; Wigginton<\/strong>. A reception at 6 pm precedes the program at 7 pm in the school&#8217;s <strong>Weems Auditorium<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wiggington, an Ole Miss alumna, will share her story of losing her eldest son, Macon, at age 25, following his struggle with alcohol. In his memory, she founded the <strong>Macon a Difference Foundation<\/strong>, which funds scholarships for underprivileged students at Mississippi universities and trade schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The foundation has partnered this year with <strong>Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The William Magee Center provides assistance to students throughout the year, not just the month of September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The Collegiate Recovery Community on campus supports students in or seeking recovery from alcohol or other drugs,&#8221; Glaze said. &#8220;Students do not have to do recovery by themselves.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students who are interested in sobriety or recovery can attend the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/39d9882956cd46848eed83139c6c5f4c\/4\/051206b18ddcfdb6cbdfb8c72042cbe9303d6fc2ad73ff648039413a6e64abd7?cache_buster=1787844477\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Collegiate Recovery Community<\/a>\u00a0open meetings at 1 pm Mondays and Fridays in the Turner Center, Room 113<\/strong>, beginning September 4.
