My biology aptitudes allow me to teach biology, but teaching is my passion.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rabb graduated from Swarthmore College in 1992 with a bachelor&#8217;s degree in biology, but her passion for teaching took root at the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/fde15380e1ab4ce6b815329bb398ed5e\/1\/5e0fc80d95514d52ebe08628feb55675ea85b93e0619ccd16a80750580684324?cache_buster=1787419230\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University of Mississippi<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/fde15380e1ab4ce6b815329bb398ed5e\/2\/b84d83b54ae3dcb82e6c63db9dfd4c47e4d7e7a7e18e567c8ae6ff7452b6ae06?cache_buster=1787419230\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">School of Education<\/a><\/strong>, where she earned her master&#8217;s degree in 1996. She completed her education with a doctorate from Harvard University in 2000 and began a journey that would inspire her recent $500,000 testamentary gift to the School of Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rabb initially approached the university with the intention of making a gift of only a portion of her estate. However, the Office of Development&#8217;s estate planning service showed her how she could take advantage of the &#8220;Give-It-Twice&#8221; strategy: a revocable planning option that allows donors to give up to 100% of their estate to charity without sacrificing a penny of their family&#8217;s inheritance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;A testamentary gift like Jessica&#8217;s is a commitment made through a will or estate plan and is a powerful way to ensure a lasting impact on a public university and the students it serves,&#8221; said <strong>Marc Littlecott<\/strong>, advancement director for estate and planned giving. &#8220;These gifts provide long-term, stable support that helps institutions expand access, strengthen academic programs, and prepare future leaders, often in ways that annual funding alone cannot sustain.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An extraordinary commitment, especially from a relatively young alumna, Rabb&#8217;s gift establishes two endowments in her name: one supporting\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/fde15380e1ab4ce6b815329bb398ed5e\/3\/9448130d2d6999b46e4c258844e39e5571404d4a859d4c039ebb85ccc2ac71b1?cache_buster=1787419230\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Transfer to Teach<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0students and another benefiting the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/fde15380e1ab4ce6b815329bb398ed5e\/4\/db4d29a06a98c498bfa7dc371f38f8cde7bb9b4916e89ce2f943959c72067de3?cache_buster=1787419230\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Mississippi Teacher Corps<\/strong><\/a>. She also leads biology courses in a prison education program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her classes are built on active, engaging learning while helping students discover their own potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Biology is such a relatable topic,&#8221; she explained. &#8220;We are all alive and live on a planet surrounded by living things. I enjoy helping students understand how living things work from the molecular to ecosystem levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I feel so grateful to be able to help students who often had negative experiences in school now find joy in learning.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At this stage in her life, the decision to begin estate planning felt both personal and urgent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I am entering what may be my last professional chapter before retirement,&#8221; Rabb said. &#8220;My children are now young adults, and I recently overcame breast cancer.
