At its heart, Lectures on Tap reflects CLA&#8217;s commitment to being an engaged and accessible partner to our larger community\u2014connecting people with the expertise and creativity of UM faculty while fostering a space for conversation, curiosity, and meaningful exchange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These events strategically happen near, but off campus at <strong>Circle and Square<\/strong> in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Events are free and open to the public!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first lecture is set for <strong>7 pm on Tuesday, August 18 <\/strong>with <strong>Dr. Allen Clark<\/strong>, the director of UM&#8217;s nationally recognized Arabic Flagship Language Program. His talk <strong>&#8220;Beyond Words: Discovering Meaning Through Music and Language&#8221;<\/strong> will combine his love and expertise in language education with his deep love of music.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2025, Dr. Clark was recognized as the  <strong>Elsie M Hood Outstanding Teacher of the Year<\/strong>, which is the highest honor in teaching UM offers, and it&#8217;s fully driven by student nominations.
