Alderman <strong>Jay Hughes<\/strong> sent us this email at 8:32 am, Tuesday, September 23, 2014:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;There is a water outage on the west side of town.\u00a0 It was hoped to have been fixed with the repair about <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_805878923\"><span class=\"aQJ\">9:30<\/span><\/span> last night.\u00a0 However, sometime during the night a valve and saddle blew out, \u00a0probably due to air pressure.\u00a0 It is a major mess and probably will not be back in service until late this afternoon.\u00a0 Hang in there &#8211; the City is doing all it can to restore service.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">UPDATE 8:55 pm, Tuesday, September 23:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Issued for limited areas in West Oxford<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The City of Oxford has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for limited areas of West Oxford following a water main break near Highway 6.\u00a0 This advisory is limited to areas west of the <strong>Jackson Avenue-Highway 6<\/strong> interchange and south of <strong>Woodlawn Drive<\/strong>.\u00a0 Areas included in the advisory are <strong>Thacker Heights<\/strong> (<strong>Garden Terrace<\/strong>, <strong>Eagle Point<\/strong>, etc.), <strong>the Links<\/strong> apartments, <strong>Tommie Collie Jane Road<\/strong>, and portions of <strong>Anderson Road<\/strong> near <strong>County Road 165<\/strong>.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Please visit the City of Oxford website,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.oxfordms.net\/\">www.oxfordms.net<\/a>, for a detailed map of the areas affected.\u00a0 Preliminary samples taken this afternoon indicate that the water is fully chlorinated or disinfected, however, the City wants to use every precaution for its citizens on the west side of town.\u00a0\u00a0 Official results are expected <span data-term=\"goog_494691795\">on Thursday<\/span> afternoon.\u00a0 Until the precautionary notice is lifted, residents on the west side of town are advised to boil all water for one minute before using for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing dishes or fruits and vegetables.\u00a0 Do not use ice made from recent tap water.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/TheLocalVoiceLigature-25web.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"25\" height=\"16\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14544\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/TheLocalVoiceLigature-25web.jpg?resize=25%2C16\" alt=\"The Local Voice Ligature\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a water outage on the west side of Oxford, Mississippi today.
