The <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Eric Deaton Trio<\/strong><\/span> will be the icing on the cake with a concert to close out the night. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The showcase will start around 6 pm. Producer <strong>Ted Gainey<\/strong> said, \u201cI have a playlist in iTunes that is a sampler\u2014it has a couple of tracks from each artist that\u2019s on the showcase and we\u2019ll just run that through the PA so that people can mingle and get their drinks and eat and listen to some Hill Country Records product.\u201d Many of the artists&#8217; CDs will be available for sale at Proud Larry\u2019s, so make sure to bring some cash to pick up a copy of your favorite.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A similar event took place in Jackson, Mississippi, at Duling Hall on September 6th that was a success and well-attended. The purpose of the event is to celebrate the Hill Country Records label and promote some of the new and upcoming releases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Hill-Country-Records-Logo_RGB.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"320\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-16093\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Hill-Country-Records-Logo_RGB.jpg?resize=500%2C320\" alt=\"Hill Country Records Logo_RGB\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Hill-Country-Records-Logo_RGB.jpg?w=500&amp;ssl=1 500w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Hill-Country-Records-Logo_RGB.jpg?resize=300%2C192&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a>\u201cThey\u2019re just all friends of ours and we\u2019re producing, manufacturing, or distributing their records in one way or another, and we just decided to have a party,\u201d said Gainey. Many of the artists on the bill have worked together on various projects and have a special rapport that will shine through in the Writers in the Round portion of the night. \u201cThey\u2019ll play probably for about three hours,\u201d Gainey said, \u201cjust taking turns, playing songs, and jamming with each other and what not, telling stories, laughing, and having a good time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Justin Showah<\/strong> (bass player extraordinaire) started Hill Country Records in 2008 with the idea of working with Mississippi musicians to distribute their music to the world. He worked with artists such as <strong>LC Ulmer<\/strong>, <strong>Robert Earl Reed<\/strong>, <strong>Afrissippi<\/strong>, and more, steadily building the reputation of Hill Country Records. In 2011 Showah opened <strong>The Crawdad Hole<\/strong> in Water Valley, Mississippi, and in May of this year brought in friend and collaborator Ted Gainey to help out with the record label. Gainey has assumed something of a management position and has evolved the label\u2019s website to be a sort of online store, selling records with artists taking the lion\u2019s share of the proceeds. You can purchase CDs and albums directly from the Hill Country Records web site, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.HillCountryRecords.com\">http:\/\/www.HillCountryRecords.com<\/a> knowing that you are helping to support the artists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Thursday night should be a fun event, with no shortage of Oxford and Mississippi players. Recorded with his band, <strong>The Nonchalants<\/strong>, the album \u201cis the sound of a talented man in a good place in life,\u201d writes <strong>Brian Robins<\/strong> for <em>Relix<\/em>. George will be re-releasing <em>Cheers Sports Fans!<\/em> on vinyl, a project that is nearing completion. George is a Vicksburg native who moved to Oxford in the 1980s, where he formed the legendary band <strong>Beanland<\/strong>. In <em>The Local Voice<\/em> #195, <strong>Carl Massengale<\/strong> wrote that Jim \u201chad gained notoriety during the early 2000s as a member of\u00a0<strong>Duff [Dorrough]<\/strong> &amp; The Revelators\u2026 Jim\u2019s gruff yet mellow vocal timbre had lent a thick Delta tone to the group\u2019s lively harmonies.\u201d Ellis\u2019 contributions to Dorrough\u2019s final recording was the inspiration for Ted Gainey to produce Ellis\u2019 record.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/CaryHudsonHillCountry.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"736\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-16103\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/CaryHudsonHillCountry.jpg?resize=600%2C736\" alt=\"CaryHudsonHillCountry\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/CaryHudsonHillCountry.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/CaryHudsonHillCountry.jpg?resize=244%2C300&amp;ssl=1 244w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>Cary Hudson<\/strong><\/span> (<strong>The Hilltops<\/strong>, <strong>Blue Mountain<\/strong>) is one of Mississippi\u2019s most prolific artists. He has a huge body of work, including contributing to fellow musicians <strong>Bobby Rush<\/strong>, <strong>RL Burnside<\/strong>, and <strong>Shannon McNally<\/strong> (to name a few) and is maintaining a fulfilling solo career.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Carl Massengale<\/strong><\/span>, \u201chonorary Revelator and onetime drummer for Cleveland band\u00a0<strong>The Esquires<\/strong>\u00a0(with <strong>Charlie Jacobs<\/strong>\u00a0and Jim Ellis), delivered harmony vocals\u201d for Jim Ellis\u2019 album, <em>Friend Behind Your Back<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/TylerKeithHillCountry.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"501\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-16104\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/TylerKeithHillCountry.jpg?resize=600%2C501\" alt=\"TylerKeithHillCountry\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/TylerKeithHillCountry.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/TylerKeithHillCountry.jpg?resize=300%2C250&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>Tyler Keith<\/strong><\/span> is known around these parts by his many various incarnations: <strong>The Preacher\u2019s Kids<\/strong>, <strong>The Apostles<\/strong>, <strong>Kid Twist<\/strong>, <strong>The Neckbones<\/strong>; but the bottom line is that he is a true Oxford Rock Star. He\u2019s contributed to so much here and beyond, that we couldn\u2019t even imagine an Oxford music scene without him in it, front and center. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Ron Etheridge<\/strong><\/span> is a singer\/songwriter born and raised in the heart of the Delta in Greenville, Mississippi. \u201cRoots inspired folk music, or Americana,\u201d is how Etheridge describes his music.\u00a0He has a new record called <em>A Mad Man\u2019s Masterpiece<\/em> that will be available at the show.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/HolleyPeelHillCountry.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"451\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-16106\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/HolleyPeelHillCountry.jpg?resize=550%2C451\" alt=\"HolleyPeelHillCountry\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/HolleyPeelHillCountry.jpg?w=550&amp;ssl=1 550w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/HolleyPeelHillCountry.jpg?resize=300%2C245&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a>Holley Peel<\/strong><\/span> came to Oxford from The Delta last year, and has quickly established herself in the Oxford scene.
