For the second straight game, <strong>Head Coach Hugh Freeze<\/strong> played second and third stringers for the majority of the second half. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Of course, the skipper was somewhat torn over that decision. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cWe were able to play all of our threes and that\u2019s great,\u201d he said \u201cI love it. I really do. These kids have paid a price to be on this team and we had some fifth year senior walk-o<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">ns that were able to get in an<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">d make some plays. The negative side to that is that when we get into these 4th quarter battles, as a coach, you worry about what\u2019s going to be like. Hopefully, that won\u2019t be a concern.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The Rebels offense, led by senior signal caller <strong>Bo Wallace<\/strong> outscored the visiting <strong>Louisiana-Lafayette Rajun\u2019 Cajuns<\/strong> 56-15 to move to 3-0 for the second straight year. The last time Ole Miss accomplished that? 1971-72. <\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16028\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16028\" style=\"width: 411px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/walton.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16028\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/walton.jpg?resize=411%2C384\" alt=\"Jaylen Walton scored twice for the Rebels on Saturday including this 71 yard touchdown scamper. Photo by Shelby Rayburn\/TheLocalVoice.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Wallace, who completed 14 straight passes to start the game, had 320 yards passing and four touchdowns in just over two quarters of work. For the record, he is 58 for 72 (80.5 percent) for 857 yards, eight touchdowns and one interception since the first half of the <strong>Boise State<\/strong> game. His 1,023 yards thorough the air so far this season rank him 8th nationally and second in the SEC behind <strong>Texas A&amp;M<\/strong> quarterback <strong>Kenny Hill<\/strong> (1,031)<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">. Wallace leads the NCAA in completion percentage at 75.5. percent. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>The Rebels<\/strong>, who scored a touchdown on eight of 15 possessions, compiled 554 total yards with a surprising 225 of that on the ground. The running game, or lack thereof, has been a concern for this squad through the first two games. In week three, both <strong>I\u2019tavious Mathers<\/strong> and <strong>Jaylen Walton<\/strong> had explosive touchdown scampers for 56 and 71 yards, respectively. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIt\u2019s better, but not where we need it to be,\u201d Freeze said in his post game press conference. \u201cWe will keep working on it. There were some good things today and we should have gone to some different things earlier.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Not where it needs to be seems to allude to the fact that Ole Miss is still lacking the ability to consistently churn out five and six yard runs to open up the passing game. Once the \u201cGroup of Death\u201d that is the SEC West is an opponent each week, that consistency may be the difference between a win and a loss. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">On defense, the secondary attributed three more interceptions to the season total. Senior <strong>Senquez Golson<\/strong> had two while taking one of those to the house for a touchdown\u00a0 in the third quarter. The Rebel secondary leads the nation in that category with eight on the year. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The Rebels will get an off week before hosting Memphis and No. 3 Alabama.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">GENERAL NOTES<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 Today\u2019s attendance at <strong>Vaught-Hemingway Stadium<\/strong> was a sellout crowd of 60,937.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 The Rebels now own an all-time record of 639-497-35 (.561 winning percentage).<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 Ole Miss is 3-0 for the second straight year &#8230; It\u2019s the first time the Rebels have started 3-0 in consecutive seasons since 1971-72.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 The Rebels\u2019 56 points were their most since beating Idaho 59-14 last year &#8230; It was the second-highest scoring output for a Hugh Freeze-coached Rebel team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">OFFENSIVE NOTES<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 The Rebel offense piled up 554 yards of total offense and 340 through the air.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 Ole Miss completed passes to nine different receivers.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 Senior QB Bo Wallace posted his third straight 300-yard game, going 23 of 28 for 316 yards with four TDs and an interception.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 Wallace tied <strong>Eli Manning<\/strong> for the school record with 10 career 300-yard passing games and moved into second place all-time with 49 touchdown passes.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 Senior WR <strong>Vince Sanders<\/strong> had career highs of eight catches, 125 yards and two touchdowns, all in the first half.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 Junior WR <strong>Cody Core<\/strong> caught four passes for 41 yards, including his team-leading fourth touchdown of the year.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 Junior RB Jaylen Walton rushed seven times for 89 yards and a touchdown, and also had two catches for 48 yards and another score &#8230; His 71-yard touchdown run was a career long.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 Junior RB I\u2019Tavius Mathers ran the ball only three times, but had 57 yards and a touchdown.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">DEFENSIVE NOTES<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 The Ole Miss defense allowed only one touchdown today and has only allowed two touchdowns all year.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 Senior CB Senquez Golson picked off two passes, including one that he returned 59 yards for a touchdown.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 The Rebels have had a pick-six in consecutive games for the first time since 2009 (Memphis, Southeastern Louisiana).<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2022 Ole Miss entered the game ranked second nationally in interceptions and had three more against the Ragin\u2019 Cajuns.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Junior CB <strong>Mike Hilton<\/strong> picked off a pass for his second career interception.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><em>Game Notes provided by Ole Miss Media Relations.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/TheLocalVoiceLigature-25web.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"25\" height=\"16\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14544\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/TheLocalVoiceLigature-25web.jpg?resize=25%2C16\" alt=\"The Local Voice Ligature\" \/><\/a><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A third stringers dream it was for the second straight week.
