The Oxford School District Board of Trustees<\/strong> has appointed Dr. Germain McConnell<\/strong> as Interim Superintendent of Oxford School District<\/strong>, effective July 1, 2026, following the retirement of Superintendent Bradley Roberson<\/strong>. The appointment will provide continuity and stability as the Board of Trustees begins the process of identifying the district’s next superintendent.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Dr. McConnell brings nearly three decades of educational leadership experience and a deep understanding of Oxford School District’s commitment to academic excellence, student achievement, and community engagement. Since joining Oxford School District in 2022 as Assistant Superintendent and Chief of Staff, Dr. McConnell has overseen Human Resources, Communications, Athletics and Activities, Health and Wellness, and School Safety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to joining Oxford School District, Dr. McConnell served as Executive Director (Superintendent) of the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science<\/strong> from 2013 to 2021, where he led the nationally recognized institution to rankings as high as No. 6 among public high schools in the nation.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. McConnell’s career also includes leadership roles at the University of Mississippi School of Education<\/strong>, where he served as Assistant Dean, Director of Field Experiences, Director of Academic Advising, Assistant Professor, and Co-Director of the Mississippi Teacher Corps<\/strong>. He began his career as a mathematics teacher and coach in Tunica County Schools. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering<\/strong>, a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction<\/strong>, and a Doctor of Philosophy<\/strong> in K-12 Educational Leadership, all from the University of Mississippi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Board President Carter Myers <\/strong>said the Board is confident in Dr. McConnell’s ability to lead the district during this transition period. \u201cDr. McConnell’s extensive leadership experience, proven record of organizational excellence, and knowledge of our district will ensure a seamless transition as we begin the search for our next superintendent. We are grateful for his willingness to serve and confident that the Oxford School District will continue to thrive under his leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. McConnell expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve the district during this important time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI first want to thank Superintendent Roberson for his dedication to the Oxford School District. He is an amazing leader and a great person, and he pointed us in the right direction. Working collaboratively with the OSD Cabinet and other leaders, I look forward to building on the foundation of excellence that Supt. Roberson has solidified and providing stability for our district. I also want to thank the Board for putting their trust in me to help steer our district during this transition. I am humbled and honored to serve the students, parents, employees, and the Oxford community until the Board identifies a permanent replacement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Board and district leadership team will work closely together throughout the transition process. The Board of Trustees will begin a comprehensive national search process to attract the most highly qualified candidates from across the country for the opportunity to lead Oxford School District<\/strong>. The board is committed to identifying a leader who will build upon our strong tradition of excellence and continue advancing opportunities and success for all students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
