Rooted in her upbringing and shaped by the influence of her late father, bluesman <strong>Bill \u201cHowl-N-Madd\u201d Perry<\/strong>, the album unfolds as both a tribute and a declaration of identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Released in January 2026, the 20-track project blends original songs with spoken interludes featuring her father, creating a narrative that traces Perry\u2019s journey from childhood. Entirely written, produced, arranged, and engineered by Perry herself, the album stands as a testament to her creative control and dedication to authenticity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is music made from the inside out,\u201d Perry explained. \u201cIt\u2019s not borrowed, not manufactured\u2014it\u2019s earned.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perry\u2019s connection to music began at just eight years old, when she recorded her first songs in a California studio\u2014an experience that left a lasting impression. \u201cThe day before, Michael Jackson had recorded there,\u201d she recalled. \u201cThe engineer let me use the same microphone. By age 12, she was performing alongside her father, and by her teenage years, she was touring with the family band, <strong>The Perrys<\/strong>, often balancing schoolwork with life on the road. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That lifelong immersion in music forms the backbone of <em>Daughter of a Bluesman<\/em>, which the Abbeville-based singer described as a chronological and emotional reflection of her life. \u201cI start from when I was born,\u201d said Perry. \u201cFrom as far back as I can remember, I was listening to his music just as much\u2014probably more\u2014than anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The album\u2019s title track embraces that connection, opening with vivid imagery and emotional clarity: \u201cI feel the fire in the songs he made \/ a voice that carried through the night in shade \/ but this heart beats with his own command \/ I\u2019m standing strong, daughter of a bluesman.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet while the album honors her father\u2019s influence, it also explores the difficulty of stepping out from that shadow. Songs like \u201cMy Own Tune Now\u201d highlight Perry\u2019s evolution as an artist asserting her individuality. \u201cI look at the album cover\u2014my dad is in shadow,\u201d she explained. \u201cHe\u2019s always there with me, but at the same time, I\u2019m stepping out of that shadow. This is my own voice now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Much of the album was inspired by our loss of the beloved bluemsan in May 2023. What began as a single tribute song grew into a full-length project documenting their shared life in music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The more I thought about it, I wanted to tell the whole story\u2014our adventure in life and music,\u201d she said. \u201cHe was my influence. My mom was the backbone. My brother (<strong>Bill Perry, Jr.<\/strong>)\u2014he\u2019s my partner in crime. Her brother contributes piano on the track \u201cBill Howl-N-Madd Perry,\u201d while noted Arizona-based harmonica player <strong>Bob Corritore <\/strong>appears on the title track. Still, the project remains unmistakably Perry\u2019s own, with her signature songwriting style guiding each track. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI just write what\u2019s in my heart,\u201d she says. \u201cI don\u2019t try to fit into categories or genres. I let other people decide that.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That emotional honesty is especially clear in \u201cGhost Notes &amp; Crossroads,\u201d one of the album\u2019s sharpest moments. She\u2019s already considering her next release, with plans to continue her ambitious goal of putting out an album each year.
