The<strong> Oxford <\/strong>residents said these experiences can shape students&#8217; worldviews and help them realize their full potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/f17b56cba2ae44ca95b6409f34cdec1b\/1\/082e0204a170123e9f3db2cb59b11698d81d8e34000a32f119fd956a8867a37c?cache_buster=1777137543\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ole Miss<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is at a really high point in its history,&#8221; Wayne Drinkwater said. &#8220;Programs like this help keep us at the top.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s one thing for a student to be able to afford college, but it&#8217;s another for them to have the chance to do meaningful things once they arrive,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Hopefully this will carry them forward.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wayne Drinkwater is a retired attorney who earned his bachelor&#8217;s degree in 1971 and his<strong> Juris Doctor<\/strong> in 1974, both from Ole Miss. Ouida Drinkwater earned a master&#8217;s degree in journalism from UM in 1978.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Supporting students with unanticipated expenses tied to leadership, research and travel has become an important priority for Ouida Drinkwater. She hopes the endowment will give students access to the kinds of opportunities she would have liked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;These are the experiences that build leadership skills and develop the whole person,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I had help going to college, but I didn&#8217;t have the extras: the mentors, the leadership opportunities, the travel, the meetings and the family away from home. Those help students grow.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Drinkwaters, members of the council&#8217;s<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/f17b56cba2ae44ca95b6409f34cdec1b\/2\/285eccf9ac4153a89ba40555da2d3126c941bbc6074d0b700bc71aa988644ef3?cache_buster=1777137543\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rose Society<\/a><\/strong>, were inspired to create the endowment after witnessing the transformative experiences provided to the group&#8217;s scholars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;All of the scholars are very impressive,&#8221; Wayne Drinkwater said. &#8220;You can see why the Women&#8217;s Council selects them. They&#8217;re great.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/f17b56cba2ae44ca95b6409f34cdec1b\/3\/87dda8ad5bf92ba8419317823ead271d2e6ab836056d8d18267d313c32dd1663?cache_buster=1777137543\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Women&#8217;s Council<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>has built an endowment of nearly $22 million and awarded scholarships to 205 students.
