The Mississippi Forestry Commission&#8217;s approval grants the ban legal authority and enforcement status under state law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;While we&#8217;ve seen some recent rainfall, Lafayette County remains in moderate to severe drought conditions,&#8221; said Chief Wes Anderson. &#8220;With no meaningful precipitation in the forecast, vegetation is critically dry and fire risk is elevated across the county.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This burn ban is necessary to protect lives and property.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"&#x1f6ab;\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tad\/3\/16\/1f6ab.png\">PROHIBITED<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open burning of debris, brush, leaves, yard waste, and vegetation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agricultural, land-clearing, and timber burns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recreational campfires and bonfires.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Outdoor burning of trash or household waste.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"&#x2705;\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t35\/3\/16\/2705.png\">PERMITTED<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cooking on charcoal, propane, or natural gas grills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contained propane or natural gas fire pits (no wood burning).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Welding and cutting operations with proper safety precautions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prescribed burns authorized in writing by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MSForestryComm?__cft__[0]=AZYk3iqoYM1ZD6VAVvmtHSlE9xQ9ovS86DukcnqD6gM3AjEqY2pyfJ-z-zmyLfdO7D0dzXoRckGXxzkfquE380RXMw3AFhLtEUjJ4dJzbbXgUMzF-7PDIwEJZpHknUSQToJaWEuWOZ3qgFJqAfGChtDn&amp;__tn__=-]K-R\">Mississippi Forestry Commission<\/a> prior to the ban.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Violations may result in civil or criminal penalties under Mississippi law.
