{"id":157373,"date":"2026-04-06T10:57:19","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T15:57:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=157373"},"modified":"2026-04-07T08:58:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T13:58:07","slug":"theatre-oxford-press-release-on-april-10-11-production-of-working","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/theatre-oxford-press-release-on-april-10-11-production-of-working\/","title":{"rendered":"Theatre Oxford&#8217;s Production of &#8220;Working&#8221; Features at The Powerhouse April 10\u201311"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Working<\/em> brings to the stage the lives of teachers, millworkers, masons, waitresses, housewives, and other unsung working folks<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Studs Terkel<\/strong>\u2019s award-winning book\u00a0<em><strong>Working<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0comes to life on <strong>The Powerhouse<\/strong> stage in <strong>Oxford<\/strong> April 10 and 11 in a musical adaptation by <strong>Stephen Schwartz<\/strong> and <strong>Nina Faso<\/strong> directed by <strong>Christopher Schager<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schoolteachers, phone operators, waitresses, millworkers, masons, housewives, and others tell of their lives and loves and trials with songs by composers <strong>Craig Carnelia<\/strong>, <strong>Micki Grant<\/strong>, <strong>Lin-Manuel Miranda<\/strong>, <strong>Mary Rogers, Susan Birkhead, Stephen Schwartz, <\/strong>and <strong>James Taylor.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The adaptation also includes contributions by <strong>Gordon Greenberg. Justin Wadkins<\/strong> provides musical direction with choreography by <strong>Jennifer Mizenko<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis musical is relevant today due to its attention to the common worker in the United States,\u201d director Christopher Schager said. \u201cThese stories are true to the spirit of the American psyche\u2014an existence forged by tenants of a pluralistic, capitalistic democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a rating of PG for parental guidance, the production takes place Friday, April 10, at 7:30 pm, and Saturday, April 11, at 2 pm and 7:30 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tickets for the event range from $15 for <strong>Theatre Oxford<\/strong> members and $20 for non-members to $18 for seniors and students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All productions will take place at the <strong>Powerhouse<\/strong> located at 413 S 14th\u00a0Street in Oxford.
