The fact that the Mississippi Delta’s most famous little blues town already offers live music 365 nights a year, coupled with the success of Coogler’s blockbuster and fabled festivals like Juke Joint, means that visitors get more than just a healthy dose of deep blues. They get the memories of a lifetime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to festival co-founder Roger Stolle<\/strong>, “It really is true that folks come for the music and come back for the people. Southern Hospitality is still very much alive. We have Juke Fest fans who come back every year\u2014from sea to shining sea and across the big pond.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AN INTERNATIONAL PHENOMENON<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Known for its rich blues history, vibrant music scene, Delta Blues Museum<\/strong>, proverbial Crossroads<\/strong>, and festivals like Juke Joint\u2014plus now ties to this year’s Best Picture contender\u2014the quirky small-town punches well above its weight when it comes to media attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our little town of 13,000 souls hosted everyone from the BBC and CNN to The New York Times<\/em> and Associated Press<\/em> last year,” said festival co-organizer Nan Hughes<\/strong>. “And we’ve had everyone from PBS NewsHour <\/em>to 60 Minutes<\/em> cover Juke Joint Festival in the past.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year’s Juke Joint Festival and Bonus Events span a full five days, including Wednesday’s Kingfish Kickoff <\/strong>(starring Grammy-winning Clarksdale native Christone “Kingfish” Ingram<\/strong>), Thursday’s John Primer Allstars<\/strong> (featuring the Blues-Hall-of-Famer himself), Friday’s Thacker Mountain Radio Show<\/em><\/strong> (with 92-year-old blues icon Bobby Rush<\/strong>), Saturday’s 17 free day stages (with 80 free performances), and Sunday’s Mini Blues Fest <\/strong>(aka festival finale).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday, April 11, is the festival’s main day with eight blocks of daytime activities\u2014including live music, arts & crafts vendors, Southern food, a car show, pig races, monkeys riding dogs, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday night? It’s the big one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, as amazing as the festival music may be, according to Stolle, “This is about more than just another event or a handful of days. Juke Joint week is the culmination of the other 51 weeks of the year. It’s no wonder that last year’s fest attracted folks from at least 47 US states, 26 international countries, and most Mississippi counties.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He went on to invite the rest of the world to experience Clarksdale’s epic Juke Joint Festival in the former home of Muddy Waters<\/strong> and Sam Cooke<\/strong>\u2014a land of blues saints and celluloid Sinners<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
