Oxford High School<\/strong> is thrilled to announce that senior Eleanor \u201cEllie\u201d Jones<\/strong> has been recognized as a Lindy Callahan Scholar-Athlete<\/strong>, one of the highest honors awarded to high school student-athletes in Mississippi.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each year, the Mississippi High School Activities Association <\/strong>(MHSAA) selects just sixteen senior student-athletes statewide\u2014one male and one female from each region\u2014for this prestigious honor, which recognizes excellence in academics and athletics and includes a scholarship award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ellie is one of only seven Oxford School District<\/strong> students to have earned this distinction since the award was established in 1996\u2014a remarkable accomplishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Oxford High School, Ellie is a dedicated member of the girls\u2019 soccer team, competing on the varsity level since her freshman year. As a midfielder, she has recorded five goals and 15 assists. Additionally, she is the co-editor in chief of the OHS newspaper<\/strong>, a National Merit Finalist<\/strong>, an AP Scholar with Distinction<\/strong>, and a member of the 30+ Club<\/strong> and National Honors Society<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following graduation, Ellie plans to attend college, with top choices including Northwestern University<\/strong>, the University of Wisconsin<\/strong>, the University of Virginia<\/strong>, and the University of Georgia.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are so proud of Ellie for being selected as the District 2 female winner of the Lindy Callahan Scholarship. This award is one of the highest honors for high school sports in the state of Mississippi,\u201d said OSD Co-Activities Director Chris Baughman<\/strong>. \u201cI could not think of a better recipient for this prestigious award than Ellie.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
