The bestselling author was the San Francisco bureau chief for the<strong> Times in California<\/strong> when an email about the<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/76fbb3f689024ac7bcd87b5333fc25b3\/3\/872e601510fc3f0109e24f87e10c27edcda3eb7ed05591e83b2aca8bb635c065?cache_buster=1774556873\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">California School for the Deaf<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s recent success on the field caught his attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After 51 losing seasons, the school was experiencing a comeback.
