The Lafayette County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/strong> reports the arrest of\u00a0Christopher Ray Reed<\/strong>, age 34, of Water Valley, Mississippi<\/strong>, in connection with a shots-fired incident that occurred on\u00a0Sunday, December 7, 2025, at approximately\u00a010:00 am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputies responded to Anchor Baptist Church<\/strong> on Highway 7<\/strong> South after receiving reports that a male passenger in a silver SUV had shouted profanity and obscenities toward church members in the parking lot and then discharged multiple rounds into the air with a handgun. Church members immediately notified the Sheriff\u2019s Office and provided an accurate vehicle description.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A short time later, deputies located and stopped the vehicle on Highway 7 near University Avenue<\/strong>. The passenger, later identified as\u00a0Christopher Ray Reed, was taken into custody without incident. Reed appeared to be heavily intoxicated at the time of arrest. Deputies recovered multiple firearms from the vehicle, including the handgun believed to have been used in the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigators from the Lafayette County Sheriff\u2019s Office initiated a comprehensive investigation. Multiple witnesses\u2014including church members and the vehicle\u2019s driver\u2014were interviewed. After completing the investigation, the driver was released without charges. No injuries were reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reed was charged with\u00a0Making a Terroristic Threat\u00a0in violation of Mississippi Code \u00a7 97-7-75. He was transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center, where he remains in custody. On\u00a0Monday, December 8, 2025, Reed appeared before a Justice Court Judge<\/strong> and was issued a\u00a0$75,000 bond. He is currently being held at LCDC awaiting bond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lafayette County Sheriff\u2019s Office extends its appreciation to the members of Anchor Baptist Church for their prompt reporting of the incident. The timely information provided allowed deputies and investigators to respond rapidly, identify the suspect, and prevent further escalation. Based on the investigation, authorities believe this was a random act, and there is no ongoing threat to Anchor Baptist Church or the Lafayette County community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
