{"id":154030,"date":"2025-12-08T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-08T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=154030"},"modified":"2025-12-08T15:11:41","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T21:11:41","slug":"university-of-mississippi-museum-keepsake-features-walk-of-champions-vaught-hemingway-stadium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/university-of-mississippi-museum-keepsake-features-walk-of-champions-vaught-hemingway-stadium\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Mississippi Museum Keepsake Features Walk of Champions, Vaught-Hemingway Stadium"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Order annual memento by December 19, 2025 for Christmas delivery<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>by Eli Bryant<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>University of Mississippi Museum<\/strong> has unveiled its annual holiday keepsake, featuring two beloved campus football landmarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This year&#8217;s design celebrates two of the most iconic symbols of Ole Miss tradition and pride&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;the Walk of Champions and Vaught-Hemingway Stadium&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;by highlighting their deep historical roots and their lasting impact on the university community,&#8221; said <strong>Campbell Sandlin<\/strong>, the museum&#8217;s coordinator of membership and communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two sites highlighted on this year&#8217;s keepsake have long and storied histories on campus.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/ce9ac49d89c745a99e835a11926cb2bb\/1\/0926f300d4406013fcdd7b866d26648babb0c06140525b539f326f74f042e704?cache_buster=1764952706\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Vaught-Hemingway Stadium<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;was named after <strong>Judge William Hemingway<\/strong>, a professor of law and former chairman of the athletics board, and <strong>John Howard Vaught<\/strong>, the legendary former head football coach who led the Rebels to national championships in 1959, 1960 and 1962.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1915, Ole Miss students assisted in building the original grandstand at the site of the present football field, with numerous renovations taking place throughout the years. The stadium&#8217;s capacity has grown from 24,000 to its current seating capacity of 64,038.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/ce9ac49d89c745a99e835a11926cb2bb\/2\/e9c888204a6320b1f17d35f84181634533999b1702962b391fec7548c8fa26ab?cache_buster=1764952706\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Walk of Champions<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;began in 1985, when head coach <strong>Billy Brewer<\/strong> led the football players from <strong>Kinard Hall<\/strong> through <strong>The Grove<\/strong> to the stadium as a way to help motivate the team. This staple of fall Saturdays before games in <strong>Oxford<\/strong> has continued a 40-year tradition of excitement, energy and passion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The iconic arch at the start of the path has become a popular spot for pictures of a child&#8217;s first game or students beginning and ending their journeys at UM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The museum has previously featured both locations on separate ornaments, but this year marks the first time they appear together on a single keepsake. Sandlin said this is a fitting tribute as the Rebels prepare for postseason play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The Walk of Champions and Vaught-Hemingway Stadium were two of our top sellers, and pairing them this year felt like the perfect way to celebrate this football season,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each commemorative ornament is $35 and can be purchased in the museum store or by phone at 662-915-7073. Shipping within the continental U.S. is $10. The last day to order for Christmas delivery is Dec. 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Museum members and Friends of the Museum get a 10% discount on all merchandise.
