Atkinson<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>University of Mississippi School of Law<\/strong> has joined forces with <strong>Millsaps College<\/strong> and <strong>William Carey University<\/strong> to allow undergraduates from those schools to earn law degrees in less time through the schools&#8217; new <strong>Accelerated Law School Pathway<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officials signed and formalized the partnership agreements in Hattiesburg and Jackson on Wednesday, November 19 and Thursday, November 20, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This Accelerated Law School Pathway provides a plan for undergraduate students in certain&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/21708ff306c543c081ad42ab8a496f25\/1\/5c9a6adb38c5db71383e9ca87cb957bdc50eb30b24ff466d3e9a62e5b2c84214?cache_buster=1763744044\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Millsaps<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/21708ff306c543c081ad42ab8a496f25\/2\/c790faf253c91b5bb9b0a441f4a3ddb48095c85f180978341da94fecc69abb82?cache_buster=1763744044\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>William Carey<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;degree programs to shorten the time required to earn both a bachelor&#8217;s degree and a law degree by one year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/21708ff306c543c081ad42ab8a496f25\/3\/c206ca2fb07bd827ad0f4897576887debb753165e51699f2499b2ea152051cd9?cache_buster=1763744044\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University of Mississippi<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/21708ff306c543c081ad42ab8a496f25\/4\/1b56435ca26d89450a8a1a46169ffa4160bd97b40dbb19f51c255d0df012dc87?cache_buster=1763744044\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">School of Law<\/a>&nbsp;is pleased to collaborate with William Carey University and Millsaps College on these innovative 3+3 programs,&#8221; said <strong>Fred Slabach<\/strong>, dean and professor of law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It exemplifies all three universities&#8217; commitment to academic excellence and student opportunity, allowing high-achieving undergraduates to earn both degrees in six years rather than seven. Submitted photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It is anticipated that most Millsaps College academic degree programs will participate in the partnership. It is expected, but not finalized, that the criminal justice and forensic science programs at William Carey will participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After completing three-fourths of the courses in one of these degree programs and meeting other competitive law school admissions requirements, students may then enroll at the law school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During their fourth year of school, students will take required first-year law school courses. They will be awarded their bachelor&#8217;s degrees from Millsaps or William Carey after completing the first-year law curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following two more years of successful legal studies, students will earn a Juris Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This agreement represents a dynamic partnership to give students an accelerated pathway to serving their communities through the practice of law,&#8221; said <strong>Noal Cochran<\/strong>, William Carey University vice president for academic affairs and provost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are honored to join with the University of Mississippi School of Law to give William Carey University students an opportunity to begin their legal career with the knowledge they have received the highest level of preparation.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officials from Millsaps College concurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Many Millsaps graduates have gone on to attend Ole Miss law school and our new partnership formalizes this pathway in a way that benefits students,&#8221; said <strong>Frank Neville<\/strong>, president of Millsaps College. &#8220;We are thrilled to partner with Ole Miss to train the next generation of legal professionals.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The partnership benefits the entire state,&nbsp;said <strong>Joshua Tucker<\/strong>, the law school&#8217;s assistant dean for enrollment management, access, opportunity and community engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Our collaboration with Millsaps College and William Carey University is rooted in a shared commitment to Mississippi,&#8221;&nbsp;Tucker said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Part of the university&#8217;s <strong>3+3 Accelerated Law Program<\/strong>, these agreements mark the fifth and sixth accelerated law program partnerships with other Mississippi institutions of higher learning.
