{"id":152642,"date":"2025-10-15T14:12:18","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T19:12:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=152642"},"modified":"2025-10-15T14:12:19","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T19:12:19","slug":"inmate-at-lafayette-county-detention-center-pronounced-deceased","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/inmate-at-lafayette-county-detention-center-pronounced-deceased\/","title":{"rendered":"Inmate at Lafayette County Detention Center Pronounced Deceased"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On October 15, 2025, at approximately 1:52 am, deputies with the <strong>Lafayette County Detention Center<\/strong> discovered state inmate <strong>John Leath Halley Jr.<\/strong> unresponsive in his cell during routine checks. Deputies immediately notified <strong>Lafayette County 911 Dispatch<\/strong> and began administering life saving measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Baptist Ambulance Service<\/strong> and the <strong>Oxford Fire Department<\/strong> were dispatched to the jail. Medical personnel from both agencies arrived on scene at 1:58 am and assumed patient care. Despite resuscitation efforts, the inmate was pronounced deceased by paramedics with Baptist Ambulance Service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At this time, no foul play is suspected. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the <strong>Mississippi State Medical Examiner\u2019s Office<\/strong>. The <strong>Mississippi Department of Corrections<\/strong> will lead the investigation.
