Loud guitars, booming rhythms, big hair, and eye liner ruled the day. But yet, many of the bands who were catapulted to superstardom during the decade lacked one essential component \u2014 respect. In their new special exhibit titled&nbsp;<strong><em>\u201980s Rock: The Wildest Decade in Music<\/em><\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>GRAMMY Museum\u00ae&nbsp;Mississippi<\/strong>&nbsp;tells the story of one of the most under-appreciated eras in rock history, exploring how genres like hair metal and glam metal became so popular and why their fans remain so loyal to this day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sponsored by <strong>The Maddox Foundation<\/strong>, the&nbsp;<em>\u201980s Rock: The Wildest Decade in Music<\/em>&nbsp;exhibit will open to the public on&nbsp;<strong>Friday, September 26, 2025<\/strong>, and feature artifacts and memorabilia from bands who made a huge splash during that decade, including&nbsp;<strong>M\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Poison<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Skid Row<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Warrant<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Ratt<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Guns N\u2019 Roses<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Cinderella<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Def Leppard<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Lita Ford<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Vixen<\/strong>, and more. Contributing Sponsors for this exhibit include Entergy, South Delta Planning and Development District, and Visit Mississippi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe couldn\u2019t be more excited to debut our new special exhibit&nbsp;<em>\u201980s Rock: The Wildest Decade in Musi<\/em>c at our Mississippi Museum this summer,\u201d said&nbsp;<strong>Emily Havens<\/strong>, Executive Director of GRAMMY Museum Mississippi. \u201cNot only is this genre of music one of my personal favorites, but the bands who were launching their careers on the Sunset Strip during this decade made an impact on young people that has lasted for generations. We\u2019re here to give the bands of hair metal and glam metal their due credit and tell the story of one of the most under-appreciated genres of music in rock history.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An exclusive pre-opening event will be held on Thursday, September 25, at 6 pm, featuring a reception and program with stories and conversation from members of Twisted Sister. This event is reserved for exhibit sponsors and GRAMMY Museum Mississippi members. Tickets for members will go on sale Wednesday, August 27, at $50 each and are available at&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/grammymuseumms.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">grammymuseumms.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On display through 2026 the exhibit will feature artifacts, instruments, and memorabilia from bands of the \u201980s hair and glam metal scene, and bands from the pre-glam \u201970s scene, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ozzy Osborne stage costume<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>M\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce\u2019s drum kit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Def Leppard Washburn bass<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Guns N\u2019 Roses smashed bass and&nbsp;<em>Appetite for Destruction&nbsp;<\/em>lithograph<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pink bodice worn by Nancy Wilson of Heart<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lita Ford\u2019s Black Widow guitar and outfit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Poison&nbsp;autographed guitars and signed memorabilia<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Guitar played by Ratt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Warrant drumhead<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Iconic photographs from the era by Mark Weiss<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Fans will even have the opportunity to have their photo taken in front of the popular Sunset Strip in Los Angeles venue, the Whisky a Go Go. The Museum is closed on Mondays.
