{"id":151232,"date":"2025-08-16T14:26:52","date_gmt":"2025-08-16T19:26:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=151232"},"modified":"2025-08-16T14:26:57","modified_gmt":"2025-08-16T19:26:57","slug":"gift-honors-an-accounting-family-at-ole-miss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/gift-honors-an-accounting-family-at-ole-miss\/","title":{"rendered":"Gift Honors an &#8216;Accounting Family&#8217; at Ole Miss"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Building fund donation honors father&#8217;s legacy and family history in profession<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A major gift to the <strong>University of Mississippi<\/strong> <strong>Patterson School of Accountancy<\/strong> tributes the late <strong>Bill Rush Mosby Jr.<\/strong>, a longtime influential accountant in Mississippi, while honoring his extended family&#8217;s history with the accounting profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lesley and Bill Rush Mosby III<\/strong>, of <strong>Jackson<\/strong>, designated the $250,000 gift to the <strong>Patterson School of Accountancy Building Fund<\/strong>. To recognize their generosity, the school will name a multipurpose space in the new building in the patriarch&#8217;s honor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To call the Mosbys an &#8220;accounting family,&#8221; as Rush Mosby refers to them, is an understatement. Following his father&#8217;s work as a certified public accountant, most of the family has become either CPAs or have been associated with the profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It all started with my dad, and I thought it would be a nice gesture since he was proud of all the CPAs in the family,&#8221; the donor said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hailing from <strong>Natchez<\/strong>, Mosby Jr. worked at <strong>Silas Simmons LLP<\/strong> for his entire career and retired as a managing partner. He also served as president for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/fe5c75b7e9144c7d9f4d748c52aac12a\/1\/27d82ffb59fe0f6969176301e4a2f3ad7f3c688b318177ddcbf96feacddce072?cache_buster=1755364681\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in 1977-78. All three of his children \u2013 Rush Mosby, Dee Mosby White and Sim Mosby \u2013 also became CPAs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rush Mosby III graduated from <strong>Ole Miss<\/strong> in 1982 with an accountancy degree, and Lesley Mosby graduated a year later with an education degree. The couple met during college and married in January 1984.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After graduating, Rush Mosby worked as a financial analyst for <strong>Callon Petroleum<\/strong> in Natchez, then moved to <strong>Mississippi Chemical Corp.<\/strong> in <strong>Yazoo City<\/strong>. Later, he joined <strong>PaineWebber<\/strong> \u2013 later bought by <strong>UBS Financial Services<\/strong> \u2013 where he has been since 1987. He is a managing director of wealth management for the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I just enjoyed all aspects of Ole Miss,&#8221; Rush Mosby said, citing professors <strong>Jimmy Davis<\/strong> and <strong>Gene Peery<\/strong> as influential teachers during his student years. A major fan of Ole Miss athletics, Mosby has also been a longtime active member of the <strong>Rebel Club, Courtside Club<\/strong>, and <strong>Vaught Society.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While his father is the gift&#8217;s primary honoree, the donor also views the gift as representative of his family&#8217;s identity in the accounting profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The couple&#8217;s son, <strong>Will<\/strong>, and daughter-in-law, <strong>Betsy Bailey Mosby<\/strong>, have CPA certifications, with Will working as vice president of wealth management at UBS with his father. Their daughter, <strong>Hallie Mosby Beasley<\/strong>, who graduated from Ole Miss with a degree in marketing and communications, married <strong>Dane Beasley<\/strong>, who holds a UM accountancy degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rush Mosby&#8217;s brother, <strong>Sim<\/strong>, works alongside his son, <strong>Cole<\/strong>, as CPAs at<strong> Gillon, Christian, Mosby PLLC<\/strong> in Natchez. Sim was also a past president of the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants. The donor&#8217;s sister, Dee, has three children who are all CPAs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark Wilder, the school&#8217;s dean, expressed appreciation for the gift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Bill Rush Mosby, Jr. was a distinguished leader in the profession \u2013 and the Mosby name is synonymous with excellence in the Mississippi CPA community,&#8221; Wilder said. &#8220;We are grateful to Rush and the Mosby family for their generous gift to support a prominent space in our new building. &#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent years, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/fe5c75b7e9144c7d9f4d748c52aac12a\/2\/ba212737dc9022d84c52b3156722ec1e0f712ce62a3888be21859d5bbaa52cd8?cache_buster=1755364681\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Patterson School of Accountancy<\/a>&nbsp;has been ranked as No. 8 program nationally for accounting education.
