Anubis Improv<\/strong>\u2019s popular mix of storytelling and improv comedy returns to The Powerhouse<\/strong> on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 7 pm. In this interpretation of the classic improv form named after its creator, Chicago Improv <\/strong>teacher and player, Armando Diaz<\/strong>, an Oxford <\/strong>community member tells true stories that six performers use to inspire their improv scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wayne Andrews<\/strong>, Executive Director of the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council<\/strong>, will be the guest monologist for this 5th installment of the Armando. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn his modesty, Wayne tried to insist that there were other community members who would be a better draw for the show, so I had to twist his arm a little and assure him he was the person for the job,\u201d says Anubis Improv founder David James Hamilton<\/strong>. \u201cWe are thrilled to have Wayne as our guest and hope that the LOU community will be excited as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cast is comprised of Anubis Improv\u2019s mainstage performers, including: Hannah Allen<\/strong>, Executive Director of the William Magee Institute<\/strong>; Anubis Improv founder David James Hamilton; member of the first ever Anubis Improv Oxford graduating class Dylan Kerr<\/strong>; Oxford’s unofficial comedian laureate Connor King<\/strong>; improv veteran and Level 2 instructor Alyssa Lee<\/strong>; and Oxford native and Ole Miss<\/strong> PhD student Maggie White<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anubis Improv, operating in New Orleans<\/strong> since 2018, began teaching adult improv classes in Oxford in partnership with the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council in August 2022. It has hosted business workshops for Leadership Lafayette<\/strong>, Ole Miss Student-Athlete Development,<\/strong> and the Oxford Chamber of Commerce<\/strong> and is going to graduate its 5th improv comedy cohort in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
