Garry and Kent Burnside to release solo albums August 15 on Strolling Bones Records<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Two members of North Mississippi<\/strong>\u2019s first family of Hill Country blues<\/strong> are stepping into the spotlight with landmark new releases. Garry Burnside<\/strong> and Kent Burnside<\/strong>\u2014both descendants of legendary bluesman R.L. Burnside<\/strong>\u2014are set to release their respective solo albums on August 15<\/strong> through Strolling Bones Records<\/strong>, capturing the spirit of the Hill Country while still carving bold paths forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though each artist has spent years honing his craft on stage and in the studio, these upcoming albums mark defining solo moments for both musicians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Garry Burnside Claims His Moment: It\u2019s My Time Now<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After decades as mainly a trusted sideman, Garry Burnside\u2014R.L. Burnside\u2019s youngest son\u2014is taking center stage with his first solo album, It\u2019s My Time Now<\/em>. Long recognized for his work with Junior Kimbrough<\/strong>, North Mississippi Allstars<\/strong>, Hill Country Revue<\/strong>, and Cedric Burnside<\/strong>, Garry brings his own voice and vision to a project with roots in tradition while also exploring fresh territory.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Recorded at the legendary Royal Studios<\/strong> in Memphis<\/strong> with Grammy-winning producer Boo Mitchell<\/strong>, It\u2019s My Time Now<\/em> features nine Garry originals, a co-write with Kimbrough called “Ramblin\u2019”, and a gritty take on his father\u2019s classic \u201cBad Luck City.\u201d <\/em>The album blends Hill Country rhythms with rock, funk, and soulful guitar phrasing, capturing Garry\u2019s range as a songwriter, guitarist, and arranger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis album really is a testament to them\u2014what they taught me\u2014and my growth as a musician,\u201d Garry said. \u201cI hope it makes them proud.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Standout tracks include the fierce \u201cYoung Country Boy\u201dand the reflective title track, \u201cIt\u2019s My Time Now,\u201d which he said touches on the \u201cthings I have been through over the years, and my coming to the front of the stage.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the instrumental burner \u201cHigh,\u201d Burnside also said \u201cI enjoy many different genres of music. New Orleans\u2019 sound is one of my favorites, and that is where the inspiration for this song came from. I like to have a good instrumental to open the show, and introduce the band, and this one is a great fit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The album also includes a bonus track, \u201cGarry\u2019s Night Out.<\/em>\u201d\u201c<\/em>This song is just a description of a typical night out with me. Music, dancing, and fun. Party Time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The personnel are mainly a tight-knit four piece, featuring the highly talented Andrea Staten<\/strong> on rhythm guitar, Pinky Pullman<\/strong> or John Stubblefield<\/strong> on bass guitar, and Avery Dilworth<\/strong> on drums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Garry will support the release with a regional tour backed by a full band, bringing his distinct flavor of funky Mississippi blues and rock to clubs and festivals throughout the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kent Burnside Honors His Roots with Hill Country Blood<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Kent Burnside\u2014R.L.’s oldest grandson\u2014is releasing Hill Country Blood<\/em>, his long-awaited studio album and maybe the most significant of his career. Known for his electrifying live performances and years spent spreading North Mississippi blues beyond the South, Kent offers a deeply personal collection that both honors and redefines the family legacy.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis album is about where I come from\u2014my bloodline\u2014but also where I\u2019m headed,\u201d Kent said. \u201cI wanted to make something authentic that also pushes things forward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also recorded at Royal Studios with Boo Mitchell, Hill Country Blood<\/em> features eight original tracks, a searing revamp of \u201cCrawlin\u2019 King Snake,\u201d and Junior Kimbrough\u2019s classic \u201cYou Better Run.\u201d The album blends the driving Hill Country groove with flavors of Delta, Chicago, and funk blues, offering a raw, fresh take on modern blues altogether.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group includes Kent on vocals and guitar, Garry Burnside on bass, Jake Best<\/strong> on drums, and harmonica player Damian \u201cYella P\u201d Pearson<\/strong> of Memphissippi Sounds<\/strong>. Key tracks include the autobiographical opener \u201cDaddy Told Me,\u201d and the title track \u201cHill Country Blood\u201d\u2014a song that explores his decision to move up North for a better life, despite some criticism he faced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although a veteran of the blues circuit, having opened for living legend Buddy Guy<\/strong> and many others, Kent has been, until now, underrepresented in the studio. Hill Country Blood<\/em> sets the record straight, offering a strong showcase of his songwriting, guitar work, and deep connection to the Hill Country tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kent has also signed a new booking deal with Road Dawg Touring<\/strong>, with tour dates to follow the album\u2019s release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With both albums dropping August 15, It<\/em>\u2019s My Time Now<\/em> and Hill Country Blood<\/em> represent a generational statement from two pillars of the Burnside musical legacy\u2014distinct voices unified by blood, history, and a shared drive to push Mississippi blues into the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
