Folk Art Sale & Contest, Wee Folk Kids\u2019 Craft, and Authentic Hill Country Music<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

New Albany, Miss. \u2013 Biscuits & Jam Farmers\u2019 Market<\/strong> is pleased to host 2nd Saturdays: Folk Art on the River<\/strong> for the second year in downtown New Albany along the Tallahatchie River.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"2014<\/a>This year\u2019s markets will continue on July 12th<\/strong> and August 9th<\/strong> from 7:30 am\u201312 pm. Artists from Mississippi and Tennessee will have art for sale. Blacksmithing and water color demonstrations will be given by local artists. Kids will be able to make a craft at the Wee Folk tent, and you can enter your original piece of folk art in our folk art contest. Authentic Hill Country music will be performed by various local artists and food vendors will be serving hot heritage food. <\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Folk Art contests will be open to anyone with an original piece of Folk Art. Art work should be brought to the market by 10:30 for judging by a panel of local artists at 11 am. Winner will be announced at 11:30, with a prize of $100 in Main Street Money that can be used at local stores in New Albany. The themes for this year\u2019s contests are: Farmer (July 12th) and Fish (August 9th). \u201cLike\u201d 2nd Saturdays: Folk Art on the River\u2019s Facebook page for more details on the contests as they are available.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Folk Art Market was a great success last year. Data shows that downtown businesses experienced a 25% increase in sales during the market days compared to the previous Saturdays. The market draws local and surrounding communities and out-of-state traffic. License plate data was collected in 2013 that determined the August event attracted 1500 visitors represented by 111 out-of-county license plates, with 19 different Mississippi counties, and 17 out-of-state license plates.<\/span><\/p>\n

This will be a great event showcasing local folk artists, craft activities for the kids, Hill Country music, heritage food, and farm vendors. Join us this summer in downtown New Albany!<\/span><\/p>\n
