{"id":146451,"date":"2025-01-20T14:16:24","date_gmt":"2025-01-20T20:16:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/?p=146451"},"modified":"2025-01-20T14:17:51","modified_gmt":"2025-01-20T20:17:51","slug":"daniel-czech-named-dean-of-university-of-mississippi-school-of-applied-sciences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/daniel-czech-named-dean-of-university-of-mississippi-school-of-applied-sciences\/","title":{"rendered":"Daniel Czech Named Dean of University of Mississippi School of Applied Sciences"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Visionary leader, performance optimization expert to lead school<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>By Marvis Herring&nbsp;<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Daniel Czech<\/strong>, whose distinguished career includes performance psychology consulting for professional athletes and Fortune 500 companies, has been named dean of the <strong>University of Mississippi&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/f600374f606b4389a17df949fec14de5\/1\/6bb396cc831c64012991c6c9478539f7b28b76bdc6e419701ea08ae78beb3752?cache_buster=1737043341\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>School of Applied Sciences<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;following a national search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Czech will join the university July 2, pending approval by the <strong>Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning<\/strong> trustees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m deeply honored and energized to join&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tracking.us.nylas.com\/l\/f600374f606b4389a17df949fec14de5\/2\/a5c22a51aa95ae0a3f0eba25647671473fda7f51270f1ad43749b5078ddcfbbc?cache_buster=1737043341\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Ole Miss<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;and become part of its rich tradition of academic excellence,&#8221; Czech said. &#8220;I am thrilled by the prospect of collaborating with our distinguished faculty and staff to cultivate the next generation of leaders in applied sciences.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Czech comes to the university from <strong>Eastern Kentucky University<\/strong>, where he has served as dean of the College of Health Sciences since 2022. During his tenure at EKU, Czech was instrumental in developing the college&#8217;s research capabilities and grant funding framework, substantially broadening its donor network and achieving unprecedented retention rates among students, faculty and staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I am excited about the experience and perspective that Dr. Czech will be bringing to the university and this position,&#8221; said <strong>Noel Wilkin<\/strong>, provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs. &#8220;He has experiences and accomplishments that have well positioned him to lead the school that is made up of clinical, professional, and academic faculty, staff, and programs.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A recognized expert in performance psychology, Czech has published more than 90 peer-reviewed manuscripts and secured more than $6.5 million in research funding throughout his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His research interests include understanding emotional intelligence in the workplace, applying positive psychology interventions in the workplace, enhancing psychological skills training in performance settings and understanding post-pandemic health behavior change strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His experience includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Serving as an international ambassador for Major League Baseball<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conducting numerous performance psychology clinics in 58 countries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Operating as a performance psychology consultant for NFL, PGA, NBA and MLB athletes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Acting as a performance psychology consultant for Fortune 500 companies on workplace performance optimization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The new dean hopes to leverage his experiences to foster a school environment where students, faculty and staff can thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;My background in professional sports, business, and emotional intelligence research has taught me that success comes from building strong teams and understanding human potential,&#8221; he said. &#8220;This means developing innovative mentorship programs, enhancing our research infrastructure through state-of-the-art facilities and resources, expanding industry connections for real-world experience, and implementing evidence-based approaches to student success and faculty development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;My research and implementation of psychological safety frameworks demonstrates that cultivating an environment of trust and support inherently fosters innovation and drives excellence.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His previous higher education experience also includes teaching and administrative stints at&nbsp;Georgia College and State University, Georgia Southern University, and Samford University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He holds a doctorate in sports and exercise psychology from the University of Tennessee, a master&#8217;s degree in performance psychology from Georgia Southern University and a bachelor&#8217;s degree in psychology from Denison University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/TheLocalVoiceLigature-25web.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"25\" height=\"16\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/TheLocalVoiceLigature-25web.jpg?resize=25%2C16\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14544\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Visionary leader, performance optimization expert to lead school By Marvis Herring&nbsp;
