Service projects throughout Lafayette County will pay tribute to King’s social justice work<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The University of Mississippi<\/strong> community will honor the life and legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.<\/strong> through its annual MLK Day of Service<\/strong> and a memorial dinner and celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UM\u00a0Division of Access, Opportunity and Engagement<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is inviting students, staff, faculty and community members to improve the community together on January 20, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volunteers will check in at noon at the Jackson Avenue Center<\/strong> for a free lunch and kickoff event. Then they will be dispatched to various sites around the city and Lafayette County<\/strong> to participate in service projects until 5 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal is to inspire participants to uphold King’s ideals through meaningful service with their community, said Kathryn Kidd<\/strong>, DAOE assistant director of community partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“MLK Day of Service is a meaningful way to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of love, service and community,” Kidd said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This event encourages active engagement and empowers individuals to make a positive impact. It also promotes a culture of service, inspiring participants to carry these values forward long after the day is over.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
