Order annual commemorative by December 13 for holiday delivery<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The University of Mississippi<\/strong> Museum <\/strong>has unveiled its annual holiday keepsake. This year’s limited-edition memento features Rowan Oak<\/strong>, the home of Nobel Prize-winning author William Faulkner<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rowan Oak has not been featured as the holiday keepsake since 2007.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have been sold out of the former design for years so I think people will be happy to see this 2.0 version with color and more details,” said Melanie Antonelli<\/strong>, the museum’s curator and collections manager. “Rowan Oak has also since had their own logo developed, which will be included in the insert as well as stamped on the gold box.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faulkner purchased Rowan Oak, then called the Bailey Place<\/strong>, in 1930. The Greek <\/strong>revival-style home sat on a 4-acre plot of hardwood and cedar and is where\u00a0Faulkner wrote many of his most-loved works<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sold to the university in 1972, the home serves as a museum and includes Faulkner’s furniture, smoking pipe, typewriter, and an art gallery.\u00a0Martha Kelly<\/strong>‘s block prints of trees from the Faulkner property<\/a>\u00a0and Boyd Saunders<\/strong>‘ etchings from “The Sound and the Fury” are\u00a0on display in the gallery<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rowan Oak curator Bill Griffith<\/strong> and assistant curator Rachel Hudson<\/strong> reviewed the design of this year’s keepsake, Antonelli said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each commemorative ornament is $25 in the museum store. Keepsakes can be purchased in person or by phone at 662-915-7073. Shipping within the continental U.S. is $10. To ensure a shipped keepsake arrives by the holiday, orders should be placed by December 13, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UM Museum is at the corner of University Avenue<\/strong> and Fifth Street<\/strong> and is open from 10 am to 5 pm. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 am-4 pm Saturdays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
