School of Accountancy to pay tribute to late alumnus in new building<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To honor the life and 40-year career of the late Guy Moore,<\/strong> of Pascagoula<\/strong>, the Deloitte Foundation<\/strong> has renamed an endowment it established in 2022 with a $1.5 million gift to the Patterson School of Accountancy<\/strong> at the University of Mississippi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following Moore’s death in September 2023, the organization changed the name of its endowment to the Deloitte Foundation \u2013 Guy Moore Chair of Accountancy Endowment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Guy would be honored and extremely humbled by the Deloitte Chair being named in his honor,” said Lucy Moore<\/strong>, his wife. “Much like the Patterson School of Accountancy, Deloitte offered him and our family many blessings that we and our sons, Christian<\/strong> and Scott<\/strong>, never imagined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“With Deloitte continuing to bless him and our family with such an honor, especially one that is centered around his mission to help make the Patterson School one of the best accountancy schools in the country, it offers both the school and our family a way to remember his contributions and continue his mission.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly before his sudden death, the UM accountancy graduate made a $300,000 gift to the school’s building fund. The school will pay tribute to his gift by naming a 90-person lecture room in his honor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The University of Mississippi and especially the School of Accountancy, including the professors, made a profound impact on his life, both personally and professionally,” she said. “He learned lessons during his time there that he carried and applied throughout his career, and he continued to apply and share long after his retirement from Deloitte.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moore retired from Deloitte LLP<\/strong> and Deloitte & Touche LLP<\/strong> in 2012 after 40 years, including 30 as an active partner. He worked in numerous Deloitte locations, including New Orleans<\/strong>; Atlanta<\/strong>; Fort Lauderdale<\/strong>, Florida<\/strong>; and the company’s national headquarters in Connecticut<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“His legacy, along with that of Lucy, will live on through many future generations of Patterson School students and professors that will benefit from scholarships, faculty support and the classroom in our new building that will bear the Moore name,” said Mark Wilder<\/strong>, the school’s dean. “We are very proud to have Guy as an alumnus and also as a member of the Patterson School Hall of Fame.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The donor’s gift will help fund construction of a planned four-story facility at the corner of University Avenue<\/strong> and Grove Loop<\/strong>. Estimated to cost some $125 million, the new building will feature auditoriums and classrooms, study areas, conference rooms, and administrative and faculty office suites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guy Moore was named to the accountancy school’s Hall of Fame in 2013. While at Ole Miss, he was a member of Sigma Nu<\/strong> fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa<\/strong> honor society and Beta Alpha Psi<\/strong> accountancy fraternity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A previous gift from the couple established an endowment that provides tuition support for students transferring from community college into the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
