JACKSON, MISS. \u2013 Award-winning chainsaw artist Dayton Scoggins <\/strong>used his incredible wood carving skills this week to transform a dead tree into a one-of-a-kind otter sculpture at the LeFleur’s Bluff Playground<\/strong> in Jackson, Mississippi<\/strong>!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSpotter the Otter\u201d<\/strong> is the beloved mascot for the playground, Spotter\u2019s Adventure Trail<\/strong>, and Spotter\u2019s Snack Shack<\/strong>. The idea for Spotter was born when a staff member of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks\u2019 (MDWFP)<\/strong> Museum of Natural Science<\/strong> spotted a playful otter on the Museum\u2019s trails and captured the interaction on video<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur goal is to create an environment where art, nature, and play come together in a meaningful way,\u201d said Angel Rohnke<\/strong>, Director of MDWFP\u2019s Museum of Natural Science. \u201cThis incredible piece of art by Dayton Scoggins adds a touch of magic to LeFleur\u2019s Bluff Playground, inspiring curiosity and joy for all who visit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 21st-century, 30,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art playground is separated into different play areas based on age, for children\u00a0<\/strong>ages 6 months to 12 years\u00a0<\/strong>old featuring 80 play activities, 73 of\u00a0which are inclusive to children with accessibility needs. All structures on the playground promote physical activities\u2014from providing greater freedom to run, jump, and climb, to supporting reduced stress levels.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
