The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour is hosting its Fall Membership party on Saturday, October 19\u2014but this year with a twist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michael Farris Smith<\/strong>, the bestselling Oxford<\/strong> novelist and screenwriter, will be a part of the event\u2019s entertainment\u2014 as a singer. He\u2019ll be singing and playing his original tunes with his band The Smokes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis event will be the first time myself and the band have played our new album all the way through,\u201d Smith enthuses. \u201cWe\u2019re very excited.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m also a little scared.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The album is Lostville<\/em><\/strong>, a six-song EP featuring Smith\u2019s original songs performed by a band that includes Jimbo Mathus<\/strong> and multi-guitarist Kell Kellum<\/strong>. Smith & The Smokes<\/strong> will make their public debut at the Thacker party on Saturday, October 19 (Ole Miss football open week) from 5 to 8 pm at the Wonderbird Distillery<\/strong> in Taylor <\/strong>(618 County Road 303, aka Old Taylor Road).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Admission is free to members. Memberships, good for a year, may be renewed or purchased online https:\/\/thackermountain.kindful.com\/<\/a> or at the door. ($120 individual \/ $180 family).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening\u2019s entertainment will also include Thacker\u2019s eclectic house band, The Yalobushwhackers<\/strong> with drummer Ricky Burkhead<\/strong>, bassist Slade Lewi<\/strong>s, pianist Keon Love,<\/strong> and guitarist\/vocalist Paul Tate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Partygoers will munch on delicious dishes from Taylor including from Grit<\/strong>, the Offbeat General Store<\/strong>, and Taylor Grocery and Restaurant<\/strong>. A signature cocktail by Wonderbird will be available as well as beer, wine, and non-alcoholic alternatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A silent auction will include bidding on local artwork and experiences including a Delta quail hunt and blues weekend, a dinner for eight at the home of James Beard Award-winning chef Vishwesh Bhatt, and Caribbean percussion lessons from renowned percussionist Ricky Burkhead, among many other items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thacker Executive Director Lucy Gaines<\/strong> says the party has all the makings of a classic event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll have some of the best musicians in the area, some of the best food and drink and one of the most unique venues in Lafayette County,\u201d she notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
