Artist reception on October 3rd to include Q&A and book signing<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Delta Blues Museum<\/strong> will soon unveil a new permanent sculpture exhibit, “Blues Portraits in Steel,” featuring the works of Scott Cawood<\/strong>. The metal sculptor and author of Dancing with the Fire: A Collection of Essays and Images<\/em><\/strong> will be on hand to discuss his “Blues Portraits in Steel” sculpture series, which will be placed on permanent display in the Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A self-taught sculptor with a background in blacksmithing and fabrication, Cawood’s artistic career of over 40 years features repurposed scrap and found steel in nearly all of his metal works. Of his “Blues Portraits” series, Cawood says he found inspiration in the blues artists of Mississippi <\/strong>and sought “to capture the deep, honest, and raw emotion” heard the in their music, adding, “each portrait is my personal account of how that individual’s music affects me.” In addition to the exhibit, Cawood’s collection of essays will be available in the Museum Gift Shop for purchase–the author will be available for book signing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Museum Director Shelley Ritter<\/strong> applauds the work of Cawood and encourages the public to attend this free event. “Scott’s use of materials and technique in creating these steel portraits give a tangible dimension to this powerful music,” Ritter says. “We are honored to add these incredible works to our collection.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
