On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the Lafayette County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/strong> took a walk in report about a possible fraud incident.\u00a0 The victim stated someone with Amazon <\/strong>had contacted them and asked if they had purchased a $4,000.00 computer.\u00a0\u00a0 The victim stated to the caller that they had not.\u00a0 Amazon told the victim that their assets were frozen and the Social Security Administration<\/strong> would be notifying them that their social security card had been compromised.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The victim was contacted later by what he believed to the Social Security Administration.\u00a0 The scammer sent a picture of an I.D. badge with the Social Security Administration and told the victim they needed to withdraw all their money from the bank and only leave $1,500.00 in their account.\u00a0 The victim followed the direction of the scammers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scammers advised the victim that they would pick up the money at their residence for safe keeping.\u00a0 The victim was advised by the scammers that their money would be held by the U.S. Department of Treasury<\/strong> and after they got a new social security number the funds would be released back to them.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The victim stated after he had completed getting the money from the bank to contact scammers.\u00a0 The victim went to the bank, took all money out, and contacted the scammers who stated they would come to his residence and pick up the money the next day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The victim stated they felt something was wrong and wanted to report it.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sheriff\u2019s Office then set up an operation to arrest the scammers on September 5, 2024.\u00a0 The operation was a success and two individuals were taken into custody later identified as 52 yr old Nasruddin Bhai Nooruddin<\/strong> and\u00a0 69 yr old Chaturali Alauidin Roy<\/strong> both of Atlanta, Georgia<\/strong>, without incident.\u00a0Both individuals are from Decatur<\/strong>, Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sheriff\u2019s Office is holding both individuals at this time pending a bail hearing.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lafayette Sheriff\u2019s Office is working in conjunction with the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office<\/strong> on this case and it is ongoing.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lafayette County Sheriff\u2019s Office is advising all residents not to give any personal information to anyone they do not know.\u00a0 The Sheriff\u2019s Office is taking several reports of scammers pretending to be with different law enforcement agencies.\u00a0 Please notify the Sheriff\u2019s Department if you are getting these calls.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
