In response to extreme drought conditions impacting the region, the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors<\/strong> approved LCFD\u2019s request for a county-wide burn, including the City of Oxford<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision was made during last night\u2019s Board of Supervisors meeting, following recommendations from fire chief Wes Anderson<\/strong>, who cited the heightened risk of wildfires due to ongoing dry conditions. The Mississippi Forestry Commission<\/strong> approved the burn ban after the resolution was passed unanimously by the Board of Supervisors meeting last night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The burn ban prohibits all outdoor burning activities, including but not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Open campfires and bonfires<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Burning of debris, such as leaves, branches, and other natural materials<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Agricultural burning<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Use of burn barrels<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We ask all residents to help us keep Lafayette County safe by adhering to this ban,” said Fire Chief Wes Anderson. “Together, we can prevent the negative effects of wildfires during this drought.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lafayette County Fire Department will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as conditions evolve. The ban will remain in effect until significant rainfall alleviates the current drought conditions, and it is deemed safe to resume burning activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
