Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks<\/strong> (MDWFP<\/strong>) Mississippi Museum of Natural Science<\/strong> is excited to share the next two lectures in the 2024 First Tuesday Noon Lecture<\/strong> series. All lectures will be held in the Museum\u2019s theater from Noon – 1 p.m. and are included with Museum admission or Mississippi Museum of Natural Science Foundation<\/strong> Membership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

October 1: \u201cBat Research and Conservation<\/strong>\u201d<\/u>\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013Katelin Cross<\/strong>, curator of the Museum\u2019s Mammalogy <\/strong>collection and the lead biologist for non-game mammals in need of conservation in the state, will share the various ways researchers study bats and how to help. Bats are the second most diverse group of mammals, and the only mammals capable of true flight. Bats face many threats, some of which have been so detrimental that the species warrants protection under the Endangered Species Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

December 3: \u201cWhat We Do in the Shallows<\/strong>\u201d<\/u>\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Visitors will get a behind-the-scenes look into the work of aquatic conservation at the Museum. Robbie Ellwanger<\/strong>, Museum Ichthyologist<\/strong> and Curator of Fishes <\/strong>and Mussels<\/strong>, will share the history of the collections and give an overview of Mississippi\u2019s aquatic diversity, recent and current projects, and future endeavors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
