The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour<\/strong>, Oxford\u2019s<\/strong> music and literature program, kicks off its 27th<\/sup> year Thursday, September 5 at 6 pm<\/strong>, at Oxford\u2019s Powerhouse Arts Center<\/strong>. Admission is free and the public is invited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guests for the Sept. 5 show will include science fiction novelist Tobi Ogundiran<\/strong> with Memphis songwriter Mark Edgar Stuart and blues musician Peggy \u201cLady Trucker\u201d<\/strong> Hemphill Lesueur<\/strong>. The show is hosted by Jim Dees<\/strong> with Paul Tate<\/strong> and the Yalobushwhacker Big Band<\/strong> featuring the Thacker Horns<\/strong> and guest vocalist, Mary<\/strong> Frances Massey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0Doors open at 5:30 pm. Refreshments will be for sale and showtime is 6 pm. The Powerhouse Arts Center is located at 413 S. 14th St in Oxford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show will be broadcast live (and every Thursday in Oxford until Thanksgiving) on WUMS, 92.1 FM <\/strong>(online at http:\/\/myrebelradio.com\/<\/a>). In Mississippi, the show can also be heard on air and online every Saturday night at 7 pm on Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB)<\/strong>. The show is also available on public and community radio stations in Memphis, Chattanooga and Knoxville, TN<\/strong> as well as on the stations of Alabama Public Radio<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show\u2019s newest affiliate is KNCE (93.5 FM)<\/strong> True Taos Radio in Taos, New Mexico<\/strong>. Additionally, the program can be accessed on most major platforms including Spotify, Soundcloud, iHeart Radio and Google Podcast, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show is also announcing a new Executive Director, Lucy Gaines<\/strong> of Oxford. A Jackson, MS native, Gaines received her MFA in Documentary Expression from the University of Mississippi Southern Studies program in 2024. Her previous positions include Assistant Directorships at the Oxford Film Festival and the Oxford Conference for the Book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A brief champagne and cake reception for Gaines will be held following the Sept. 5 show at the Powerhouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe feel fortunate to have Lucy Gaines as our new Executive Director,\u201d declared Thacker Board President Mary Margaret Andrews.<\/strong> \u201cLucy\u2019s experience and energy are a perfect fit with our existing staff and crew,\u201d Andrews continued.\u00a0\u201cWe look forward to growing the show artistically and financially.\u201d For Gaines\u2019 part, she\u2019s eager for the challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have extensive experience facilitating community engagement with the arts,\u201d she notes. \u201cI\u2019m a people person and I look forward to wearing many hats for Thacker. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur immediate goal is to expand the audience and donor base.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlights of the upcoming fall season include Blues Hall of Famer Charlie Musselwhite<\/strong> (Nov. 21):\u00a0 Dispatches From Pluto<\/em> author Richard Grant<\/strong> (with an all new, Dispatches from Arizona<\/em>) (Sept. 12); thriller writer (and Mississippi native) Katherine Wood<\/strong> (Sept. 19).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other highlights include a Sarahfest show with the Sarah Isom Center<\/strong> at Off Square Books<\/strong> featuring bestselling author, M.L. Rio, violinist Alice Hasen<\/strong>, and CMT Next Women of Country music\/soul singer Julie Williams<\/strong> (Oct. 10).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also: The A’Capella Choir<\/strong> from Rust College at the Lyric (Oct. 17); Delta pianist\/vocalist Eden Brent<\/strong> (Oct. 24); a rare Halloween show (Oct. 31 – watch out!) and up and coming Memphis blues guitarist Ping Rose<\/strong> (Nov. 14).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of special note are two Thacker-related events: a special fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Wonderbird Gin Distillery in Taylor, MS<\/strong> and a membership party at Southside Art Gallery<\/strong> on the Oxford Square<\/strong> on Friday, December. 6.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Powerhouse Arts Center in Oxford, will be the venue for the entire fall season of 12 shows except for Oct. 10 (Off Square Books) and Oct. 17 (The Lyric Theatre).More information on guests and other fall dates are available at the show\u2019s website thackermountain.com<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
