On Sunday, July 21, 2024, at approximately 7:30 pm, the Lafayette County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/strong> was on patrol on County Road 103<\/strong>, when the Deputy observed a black sedan in his lane while meeting the vehicle in the curve.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Deputy turned around on the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vehicle attempted to flee from the Deputy and ended up turning into a residence on County Road 139<\/strong>.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 41 year old William David Pettit<\/strong> of Abbeville, Mississippi, <\/strong>exited the vehicle and ran from the Deputy.\u00a0 The Deputy was able to pursue Mr. Pettit, caught him, and placed him in custody.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Pettit was then transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center<\/strong>.\u00a0 Mr. Pettit is charged with Felony Fleeing, DUI 4th<\/sup>\u00a0or greater, and several misdemeanor offenses.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Pettit\u2019s bond is not set because of charges with the Mississippi Department of Corrections<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
