Oxford, Miss. (TLV) – For the first time in 43 years, the\u00a0Ole Miss Rebels <\/strong>are\u00a0going to the College World Series<\/strong> in Omaha, Nebraska. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Rebels whipped\u00a0the number one team in the nation,\u00a0Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns,<\/strong>\u00a010 to 4 on Monday night in game three of\u00a0the Super Regional in Lafayette, Louisiana.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ole Miss Rebels lost their first Super Regional game 9 to 5 against the Cajuns on Saturday evening, but rallied on Sunday to win 5-2. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Ragin’ Cajuns loss to the Rebels 10-4 on Monday was their first back-to-back losses of the year. Louisisana-Lafayette was ranked number 1 in the nation coming into the Super Regional with 58 wins.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Rebels win Monday evening is the first time Ole Miss has won a Super Regional since 1972.<\/span><\/p>\n

The last time Ole Miss was in the College World Series was 1972, and Jake Gibbs was in his first year as head coach.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Two-Time All America Baseball player and former New York Yankee Jake Gibbs<\/strong> coached the Rebels to a College World Series during his first year as head coach. <\/span><\/p>\n

Gibbs guided Ole Miss to a 28-16 record in 1972, winning the fifth SEC championship in school history and leading the Rebels to their fourth visit to the College World Series.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Rebels have not returned to Omaha in 43 years.\u00a0<\/span>2014 will be only the fifth time on school history that Ole Miss has advanced to the College World series.<\/span><\/p>\n

The College World series begins Saturday, June 16 and continues through Wednesday, June 25, 2014. Other teams who have advanced to Omaha include TCU<\/strong>, Texas Tech<\/strong>, UC-Irvine<\/strong>, Texas<\/strong>, Vanderbilt<\/strong>, Virginia<\/strong>, and Louisville<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n
