“I was visiting Granny in Oxford in 1979 when B.B. King was recording his Now Appearing at Ole Miss<\/em> album. After the recording was complete, I went backstage to congratulate B.B. He welcomed me to come along with him and the band for a little celebration. We went to the Ramada Inn and it was a special night. I slept in the next morning, or rather I tried to.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“My bedroom was beside the living room and I kept hearing Granny answering the phone, and questions. It seems a local newspaper had published a picture of us at the Ramada, on the front page. Through blurry sleep, I finally realized she was talking about me. When I got up and walked into the living room I was reminded of Aunt Pitty Pat Hamilton getting told at the Atlanta Bazaar in Gone with the Wind<\/em>. — ‘If Melanie says it\u2019s alright, then it is alright.’ It seemed I had shocked some of the Confederacy. Granny was saying, ‘Well, if Mary (May-Ree) thought it was okay, then it was okay.'” \u2013 Lauren Hutton<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
