Master Gardeners can be reached by leaving a message at the MSU Extension Office 662-234-4451. A home consultant specialist will contact you to schedule a visit or answer questions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Planting<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Set out most shrubs and trees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Divide violets, Shasta daisies, liriope, ajuga, mums, and other perennials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plant okra, melons, peas, corn, beans, eggplant, cucumbers, and tomatoes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set out summer annuals if danger of frost has past: ageratum, alyssum, begonias, geraniums, dianthus, celosia, marigolds, moss roses, petunias, impatiens, coleus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plant summer\/fall blooming bulbs: callas, cannas, dahlias, gladiolus, and gloriosa lilies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fertilizing<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fertilize vegetables at planting according to recommendations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fertilize shrubs if not done in March.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pest Control<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Spray new rose leaves for black spot weekly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pruning<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Disbud roses and peonies for specimen flowers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lightly shape any formal hedges to remove new growth.<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prune azaleas and other spring-flowering shrubs after blooming.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mulch<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Replenish mulch around Azaleas and Camellias. To properly mulch, apply 2-3 inches of mulch to the base of trees and shrubs. If mulching trees, do not place mulch in direct contact with the tree trunk.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Miscellaneous<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Paint and repair garden furniture and other hardscapes (bird baths, bird houses, mailbox, deck).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Buy azaleas in bloom to be sure of color.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Always mulch new plantings to help ensure success.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hummingbirds are here! Cut back weak parts to encourage new growth.
