On March 3, 2024, at approximately 1:58 am, the Oxford Police Department<\/strong> responded to the Double Quick<\/strong> parking lot for a disturbance. The initial officer arrived and observed a very large crowd had gathered. While walking the parking lot, the officer saw a fight between two males next to a gas pump.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The officer went to break up the fight and began pulling on the male that was on top. At that point the officer described feeling a cold, metal object pressed on their temple. The officer quickly turned and was able to remove the firearm from the suspect, Jacqueline Denise Giles<\/strong> (36 of Oxford, Mississippi<\/strong>). Giles was taken into custody without further incident. The gun ended up being stolen from Oxford in 2020.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis incident should remind everyone why law enforcement says nothing is ever routine. There\u2019s a reason why we stay on alert. There\u2019s a reason why we take every call serious. There\u2019s a reason why more than one officer shows up on a stop or a call,\u201d said Chief Jeff McCutchen<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Giles was arrested and booked for Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. She was given a bond of $275,000 by the Municipal Court Judge<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis incident could have been deadly if not for the calm response of our officers. This is now twice in less than two weeks that a call could have resulted in a tragedy. I\u2019m proud of our officers and their dedication and we will continue to work hard to keep violent people out of this community!\u201d said Chief McCutchen.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
