Bonds Auditorium<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An original play by Oxford native and former Oxford Middle School drama teacher <strong>Kate Leslie<\/strong>, <em>Shadow of the Son<\/em> takes a contemporary look at the lives of twin gods Artemis and Apollo, born to Zeus in Greek mythology\u2014and respectively associated with the moon and sun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Illustrious <a href=\"https:\/\/dameinwash.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">local musician <strong>Damein Wash<\/strong><\/a> (and Leslie\u2019s former coworker) scored original music for the play, and considers it a \u201cdream collaboration\u201d to work with director and producer <strong>John Davenport<\/strong>, on what will mark his 125th show with the OSD and Theatre Arts Guild.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/DamienDameinWash.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"543\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/DamienDameinWash.jpg?resize=640%2C543\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12673\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/DamienDameinWash.jpg?w=650&amp;ssl=1 650w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thelocalvoice.net\/oxford\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/DamienDameinWash.jpg?resize=300%2C254&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Oxford Musician and Composer Damien Wash<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJohn picked it up and decided to make a big production out of it,\u201d said Wash, \u201cbringing in a reputable costume designer and choreographer. He asked me to put some music to it\u2014so I did.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wash composed instrumental music for all 18 scenes of the play, a task that was a completely new undertaking for the seasoned musician, who said that he read each scene \u201cseveral times\u201d before adapting them musically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve written music for short films, but never for stage like this before.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wash paid compliments to the Oxford High students, who in some cases carried the task of playing two different instruments on the recordings, all done on site at OHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their performances of the musical score\u2014which contains 18 scenes and recurring themes, and Wash described as \u201cnot exactly simple&#8221;\u2014reinforced his confidence in the production as a whole. \u201cThey are very skillful musicians to be able to pull this off,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding his approach to adapting instrumental music to a very complex, thought-provoking take on divine twins\u2014with opposing outlooks on many matters\u2014Wash said, \u201cI try to be as descriptive as I can with the music, and try to paint a lot to the play itself, depicting characters, scenes, moods, and emotions.&nbsp;You try to capture it.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also said it will be about as \u201cbig a production as Oxford High School normally does.&nbsp;It\u2019ll be nice to see.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Wash\u2019s score is mostly instrumental, some live singing by the cast will work in tandem with the music. He said that one of his favorite things about his role as the musical composer for <em>Shadow of the Son<\/em>, is that he gets to sit back and enjoy the show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is the first time I\u2019ve been able to compose and just hand off the score to really talented folks,\u201d said Wash. \u201cIt\u2019s nice to just be able to create the music.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added, \u201cI\u2019ve been making music around this town for a long time, and it&#8217;s just especially nice to be connected with the school.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Tickets are available at <a
