The Yoknapatawph Arts Council (YAC) <\/strong>recently announced an important achievement and next step in the Humanities Hub<\/strong> project. Thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities<\/strong>, YAC plans to break ground on a new Humanities Hub that will merge creative and community space. The Hub will serve Oxford<\/strong>, Lafayette County<\/strong>, and all of North Mississippi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History<\/strong> has approved the exterior designs for the Humanities Hub. This is an important next step to securing a Section 106 approval, which ensures that federally funded projects identify and assess the effects the projects may have on historic buildings, such as the Powerhouse<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Arts Council is currently in the period of public comment<\/a>. Once this is completed and reviewed by the National Endowment for the Humanities, YAC will be able to access the Challenge Grant funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next step will be to finalize the design and budget for the expansion. The Mississippi Arts Commission has approved the Building Fund Grant to start this phase once the Section 106 public comment period is complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
