Founded by <strong>Darryl Parker<\/strong>, the festival\u2019s mission is to keep the blues alive by highlighting new and upcoming blues artists as well as underappreciated old-timers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cSpreading the blues into new audiences is important\u2014helping to foster and create not just listeners, but also musicians.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">This year\u2019s three-day fest includes blues panels on Thursday and an \u201cemerging artist\u201d challenge on Friday, before the headliners hit the big stage on Saturday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The festival kicks off on Thursday with two engaging blues panel discussions at the <strong>Ole Miss Blues Archives<\/strong>. The first panel titled <strong>\u201cBlues Legends Unplugged: A Journey Through Time, Tradition, and Transformation,\u201d<\/strong> features bluesman <strong>Willie Farmer<\/strong>, whose narrative from mechanic to musician encapsulates Mississippi\u2019s deep blues roots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The second panel, \u201c<strong>Soulful Sounds: Blues Music and the Ongoing Pursuit for Justice,\u201d<\/strong> highlights <strong>Brenda Luckett<\/strong> and <strong>Al White\u2019<\/strong>s lifelong dedication to blues music and civil rights.<br>\u201cThe panels are just another way of telling a story,\u201d Parker said. \u201cYou can tell stories through songs. You can tell a story through panels and interviews. It\u2019s just a different way of expressing the blues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Friday evening transitions to the <strong>Emerging Blues Artist Challenge<\/strong>, a platform for up-and-coming artists to showcase their talents. The lineup includes acts like <strong>The Delta Project<\/strong>, <strong>Malach<\/strong>, <strong>Delo Brown<\/strong>, <strong>Cricket &amp; The Boogieman<\/strong>, <strong>Steve Brewer<\/strong>, and <strong>The Blues Experience<\/strong>, offering a fresh take on classic blues rhythms. The challenge starts at 6:30 pm, with gates opening at 4:30 pm at the Lafayette County Multipurpose Arena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cWe just want to recognize all the great talent in this area and beyond,\u201d Parker said. \u201cWe want to highlight and develop new talent and expose it. Her journey eventually led her performing internationally with legends like Bobby Rush, Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, and Buddy Guy.
